Ruhu's Journal, 21 October 2013

It wasn't the best of days & it wasn't the worst of days as I certainly didn't eat only when I was truly hungry (I couldn't have been truly hungry that often/much, even if it felt like it in my fatigue/post late night state). But, I'm back on the "2" (a fast day) of my 5:2 plan & still feeling good about the IF WOE while staying gluten, lactose & sugar aware. Onward & upward with the construction of my healthy eating & living highway!

I'm off to tabata spin this morning (tabata being a specific type of interval training which I'm finding very challenging but like the variety in my workout repertoire) and then errands & book work this afternoon. And, I want to watch Dr Oz today at 4. While I like Dr Oz, I'm not a huge fan as he seems too often to have "ground breaking new diet/fitness/health info" which seems to me to conflict with the last bit of "ground breaking news" he announced. But I just downloaded the book, "Grain Brain" about one doctor's view of the connection between gluten & Alzheimer's. Given my Mom's diagnosis, I'm especially interested... and thrilled I'm mostly gluten free... just in case!

DH is off to Chicago until Thurs (meaning an easy cooking week & possibly a little less stress in general... although you know I love him dearly) & then I'm off to my retreat on Sat! But one day at a time until then, and today's I'll begin in prayer --

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Today, I'll pray, breathe, log, journal & express my way on this one day and each one meal, moment, bite & emotion. I'm grateful today for each of you, my family & IRL friends, what sounds like another nice day in the northeast east before a cold front comes through tomorrow, an easy week with my retreat to look forward to and having the health & wealth to live this life I love. xoxoxo

I think I get a little guilt workup when I eat when not truly hungry.. then I remember she does write that its alright as long as you're aware of it - the intention and attention mode. You're fine :-)

Sounds like a good plan for the day. I used to watch Dr Oz but found most of his advice involved buying lots of pills and taking lots of supplements. I'm not good at swallowing and remembering to take lots of pills so I don't watch as much. Hope your day goes well!

Angel, you are so right! Another point from "our book" that i forgot/forget -- it's ok to choose to eat for reasons other than true hunger -- just do so with intention & attention! And, of course, even "ordered eaters" do so! I'm so looking forward to this retreat, for several reasons, but I'm hoping that hearing her wisdom live will help me remember it better & incorporate it into my daily life! Guess, we'll see! SJ, I agree about Dr O, but am very curious about this particular guest -- of course, you'll all hear more in tomo's journal, I'm sure!

Morning Ruth, I am sure you will enjoy this week, not having to cook as much and having the remote control to yourself. While we love our significant others a wee break is always welcome. You go away this week-end don't you? Where is your course, close by as in driving to it and home again at night, or are you gone for a week? You likely did say in a previous post but thought I would ask anyway. Glad the dinner dance was nice. Can't believe DH asked friends to come for drinks first without asking - he just doesn't get it/or learn does he :) Oh well, we love them anyway :)

Is, my retreat should truly be one in Carefree, AZ... hopefully a very appropriate name! I fly out Sat morning, it starts Sat afternoon & finishes Weds midday. I then fly home Weds night. There is a 3 hour time difference & a 4-5 hour flight, but hopefully, it will be "carefree" enough that I can rest if/when needed. xoxox

Is that a little Dickens I hear? LOL. Well done on the tabla and the gluten, lactose free. You're still doing it, Ruth. You're to be commended.
