Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 27 September 2013

Blech. That about sums it up. My eating last night was a little on the high side. I made speghetti for the kidlets then the menlets refused to eat it (We adopted a 25 yr old last week who is just as food challenged as hubby). Picky eaters. So.. now I have a pot full of speghetti in the fridge. You can freeze it right? I may freeze it. I can't stand watching that much food go to waste especially since I paid for all the groceries that made it! I had plans to eat a nice salad, make the men meatball subs since they have something against noodles,... it all went poot starting with 9 yr old not taking meat out of the freezer like I asked when she got home. Literally.. I called her at noon. Said do this now.. and she somehow forgot. *smacks head* So no meatballs.. lots of speghetti.. whiney men = salad? *snort*

Tonight I will do better. It will be me, the kidlets, and the adopted 25 yr old. He constantly suggests pizza for dinner.. I feel bad feeding someone new my burnt unedible dinners. The family is used to it so I don't feel bad telling them to eat around the black parts. I may need to learn to cook. Or at least attempt it until the harvest is done and the 25 yr old goes home. Not that I want him to go home. It's challenging but nice to have a guy around the house who isn't so zoned into the tv that he can't hear anything going on around him. Like the suggestion that he hooks up the new gas tank to the grill if he want's dinner anytime soon.. hubby? He somehow got sucked into jeopardy of all things on his way to put on his boots. Never seen the man watch it before in his life and there he is zoning into it with only one shoe on. The 25 yr old? Watches hubby for 5 minutes with a confused look then jumps up and runs out to the grill in his bare feet. Makes me want more kids... they become more useful as they get older.

I seem to be rambling. I'm trying to cut myself down to one cup of coffee a day since I noticed I was up to 3 or 4 cups a day. I also noticed I was more high strung and snappy. So far... I have the willpower but don't seem to be making sense to anyone around me anymore. I did stop growling at people though. It's a start.

Men love meat and potatoes. Just cook that for them and you can have the meat with a nice salad. It's all good them and you get your protein. As for the spaghetti, yes it will freeze. Good luck with the coffee decrease. Hopefully lil man is sleeping through the nights now so that you can too!

My mother in law, bless her , is a fiesty 5 foot nothing woman who tells everyone that what she cooks is what there is to eat. If they want something else, they cook it or they go hungry. She's even been known to pitch the whole dinner out the back door!!! She told all the guys to be home at a certain time, and they weren't. So she ate what she wanted, and pitched everything out the door!!! She told them, dinner was ready, but you weren't here, so you go hungry, cause I'm not cooking!! They were on time after that!! Good on you with trying to cut the coffee. Not the easiest thing to do. I just switched to the half and half for a month or so, then to straight decaf!! I drink maybe 2 cups in the morning and that's it.

Ever make pizza with a Boboli crust? I use the whole wheat thin crust, canned pizza sauce, reduced fat Italian blend cheese, and either turkey pepperoni, mushrooms, & sliced olives or diced ham & pineapple tidbits. Sometimes a veggie one with canned artichoke hearts, mushrooms, olives, fresh basil, whatever. 10 minutes in the oven, nirvana on the light side. You can make a loaded one for the menlets. My partner has adjusted to my cooking; last night we had grilled cheese on whole grain apricot pecan bread using light butter, with a side of grapes. I only burned on side, i'm so proud. :oD

I don't envy your kitchen situation. I'd say let the men order their own pizza if that is what they want!
