How much protein does a person need? I read in Clean Eating magazine that the average person needs 1 gram per kilo of body weight. That would mean around 60 grams a day for me. It didn't mention weight lifting or working out; trainers always say to have plenty of protein after working out. Just wondering.

I love vegetarian cooking, my partner loves meat, I've been striving to eat more protein since joining FS. Yesterday I bought 2 pounds of boneless breast of chicken & 3/4 pound of Oregon shrimp (yum! Shrimp salads for dinner tonight!) . I'm planning on making Moroccan Chicken Stew, plus grilling some chicken. Better make room in the freezer for leftovers!

I did BodyPump & CXWORX yesterday ; I'm sore because I added more weights, but sore in a good way. The Portland Thorns won their soccer match last night; it was a beautiful night, I wore shorts and sandals and we didn't get home until after 10 pm. Did well with my eating. :o)

Today I have to wait for my medication delivery so doubt I will make it to the gym. I can ride my exercise bike. Errands to run, cooking to do, all on another beautiful and warm day. Sorry Isabel, wish I could send you some sunshine!

60 grams is avg for someone who does not work out or lift. If you lift a lot then you should have about 1g of protein per body weight. cardio you dont need to add too much more.. about 80g or so is fine,

Isopure protein drinks are 40 grams in one serving without having to be a 'smoothie' or one of those candy like 'bars'. (it's like an apple juice). I get them at our health food store now and then.

Thank you for the input! I don't lift a lot, just really getting started, and my cardio has been cut down a bit because of the foot injury. My package arrived just after the Zumba class I wish I would have been at ended. Oh well, now I need to get on with my errands. I'm tired from yesterday, think I'll be able to take a nap this afternoon! I'd better get moving on my errands!

Shrimp is probably one of the most tastey and good for you thinks ever! yum! I am glad you mentioned the protein thing, although since I am losing weight and not maintaining at this present time I won't follow that measure or I'd be eating all day trying to fulfill it. I have just been trying to do percentages and make sure the right amount of fat, carbs, protein are being distributed through my calories. Great read as usual though Kat, :D take care!
