Ms Elizabeth's Journal, 29 April 2013

The good news is I have a flower garden, veggie garden raised boxes in need of dirt and seeds, the oat field got planted, one of the hay fields is bottle and trash free thanks to the kids and I hiking about a mile along the road where only 3 strangers offered us rides, and.. I still have 1/3 a bottle of wine!

The bad news is I think I gained a few lbs. Hubby and I now have a failure to communicate joke going back and forth that's bound to cause problems because now we're actually trying to not communicate well. Sound confusing? It is. My only advice is never try to build anything with your spouse. Even something as simple as a planter box!

Since tomorrow is the end of the month I will weigh in then to figure out what my progress was for my challenge. Next month I'm going to do something challenging. I gave up soda for an entire month.. next I'm going to give up the scale. I find that every time I hit a new low it's like something triggers in my head that says.. Good job! Now go eat as much ice cream as you want! Um.. no. This doesn't work. I know this doesn't work. I'm also giving up my calorie counter arm band. This one is more for vanity. I have a good idea what I burn in a day now and well.. I have the start of a farmers tan and a strap band at this point. Plus.. so many people have asked "What's that?!?!" I'm getting self conscious. In May I will eat between 1200-1500 calories a day. I will not weigh myself. If calories in and calories out really works, 3500 calories really equal a pound, and I can stay on target I should be in the low 140's by June. Sound nuts? It may be... I didn't have the willpower to avoid the 9 yr old's candy in my front seat on the drive to work but I think I can do all this. If not.. well then we had a failure to communicate and you misunderstood me.

I think this time of year is a great time to try. The weather is finally getting nicer and you just naturally stay active. Working on those massive planters will help lol! Any time you want candy just go clean rememeber :0).

Ha ha - you always make me smile. I almost made your challenge until I saw my dark choc on sale and bought 2 bars and ate both this weekend. But lets see - I started a week early - remember so I did make it a month - just not the challenge month. We are all so much alike it isn't funny. Down a little and our bodies freak out for food. :) We can do this - I'm ready for a new challenge.

I've also been toying with getting rid of the scale. I was going to try to stay off of it, but if it is in the bathroom I'll step on it, so I'm with you for May 1200-1500 calories of food (going to make it better stuff :) and no scale :0

Sounds like the start of a new DFW challenge to me! 1200-1500 calories throughout May. Only weigh in at the beginning & end of the month....hmmmm

Giving up the scale of an entire month sounds hard! I don't think I could do it... Then again I also use going under my goal weight as an excuse to gorge... maybe I should try it. :) Woo hoo for the gardens being completed! It sounds like a very productive weekend.

Once a month? You cray. I can barely get away with weighing myself once a week.

Right now I weigh myself almost every morning. Unless I'm afraid of what it's going to tell me.. then I can avoid it for some reason. I used to have a diet coke at least once a day too though.. I gave that up.. it could happen. I could do it.

I'm not sure I could stay away from the scale for an entire month. I wish you luck!

Don't get me wrong. I definitely think you can do it. I should challenge myself to do the same. It would save me some unneeded discouragement at times.

I am trying to weigh monthly but that stupid FS link drives me crazy. I think ignoring it put 3lbs on me! I definitely enjoyed your challenge but my 'improvement' thing won't be to give up cussing.. was just too @#$#@#$#@%^^#$ unattainable for me. I do think there's some connection that makes us think 'skinny people eat all they want.' The trick is ... skinny people don't eat all *I* want. That's why they are still skinny. Maybe that's what you're doing when you hit your goal weight?

I got a few things planted, but I'm waiting until next to plant the warmer weather veggies, it's still supposed to get in the 30's here overnight this week. Yuck! I hope avoiding the scale works for you. That is an interesting idea, then you'll see after a whole month how you've done, instead of seeing those ups and downs throughout the month. And maybe just feeling your clothes getting looser will be better than seeing that lower number anyway. Good luck!!

Bella I think I have the skinny people eat whatever they want and I should be able to too syndrome!! I let the scale mess with my head a lot, so I think it will be beneficial to ditch it for awhile. . . don't know if I can last a whole month, but I made it 2 weeks once, lol. My problem is a see a nice new low number, then I let the junk creep in, if the number stays the same or only goes up .something, I keep eating the junk, then when it jumps up 2 or 3 I'm mad at it. It wasn't the scales fault I sabatoged myself!!

Doing our first garden this year, and I am so geeked!!! Also going with a raised bed that will be 12 x 5 in our small city lot. I have wire set for the squash and such to grow up and save space too. If we like it then we can add on next season!! Heck I might toss in a few plastic cows so I to can be a true farmer!!!
