You've got a source for horse poop!?!? OMG I am SO jealous! I have to buy poop for my gardens. You CAN grow veggies you just don't realize it yet.

Good luck with growing some veggies!! I've always wanted to try, but we rent so I can't change the landscape... and I'm afraid I would kill them as well.

Lucky you with the neighbor sharing; at the rate we're going with these unexpected 'late spring freezes' I'm going to put half of the Lowe's employee's kids through college!

LOL! At least it sounds like fun tearing things up. Even though the flower garden is over the septic tank, if the dirt dries out, you will have to water it. I would love to have a neighbor who shared plants. I have a nice, green thumb and most of the things I plant thrive. That wasn't always the case, so there's hope for you yet! :-)

But the weather is supposed to be nice so it will be a good time to be outside. Looks like all the work at out house is on hold for this year. Plus side is the embarrassment of a deck is hidden by the new fence.

I have the same black thumb of death for plants. Every year in May my mom fills my planters with beautiful flowers, and every year they are dead by the end of June. Ugh! Maybe you can pay your daughter a nickel every day to water the plants for you?

I found out I was too motherly to my plants and over watering them. Now that I only do it when the dirt starts to dry I quit killing them. Supposedly we are planting our garden this weekend. Everytime I say that the weather calls for more freezing so we kept putting it off. Forecast still looks good here though! What all veggies are you planting?

Flower beds over septic tanks = bad from my experience. Shallow dirt will dry out quicker and will need more watering. Flower beds over septic field lines = good! That is if the field lines stay full. Everything gets watered and fertilized from below. So flush the toilets to water the flower beds! LOL Great you have neighbor who likes to share. I sort of had one like that. My flower beds are pretty full now with the help of Lowe's & Walmart garden centers. I mostly fill mine with perenials but leave some open spaces to change out different colors of annuals. And HEY! It's great to be busy! Love what you said about keeping hands busy so you're not using them to eat! So TRUE!

I'm seriously jealous, mostly of the power tools. Isn't creating fun. :)

I'm a black-thumb-girl, too. Good luck and hand over some tips the Goddess might give you.... my yard is the PITS.

Your journal is too funny - enjoy building things and driving that tractor. I am sure the flower garden will look lovely - for a while :)

If I can keep something alive this summer then anyone can do it! I have a godess gardener next door, I'm married to a farmer, and I have little people willing to water things when I'm passed out from exhaustion... that is until she goes to grandma's for 2 weeks.. those 2 weeks could be critical. I better make sure she doesn't go anywhere till after I get my veggies. I bought seeds over my lunch! Now.. I just have to figure out where to plan the veggies and when. These things should come with better instructions.
