RiverRes's Journal, 13 April 2013

Ahh. Cravings. It has plagued me this past week. It took a long time to figure out what it was - and unfortunately several trials/failures to identify it - but now, I am satisifed. Evidently, I was craving creamy and sweet. My lovely daughter made vanilla pudding and voila! Maybe I can get on with my life!

Busy week! I got my first snow day (as an adult) when a blizzard hit the eastern plains of Colorado on Tuesday and they shut down my office. Unfortunately, I get to work the weekend to make up for it. I got to meet with our local community (non-profit) fund administrator on Thuursday, and in May, I will have the opportunity to choose a local non-profit and sit on their board of directors. Dang! I never pictured myself as this important!

I was also selected as a company representative for "Wellness Now" which is our corporate initiative to improve our health. The "role" will have me speaking at company meetings to encourage people to know their numbers, be nutrition aware, and move! I will serve as a poster child for weight loss and let me tell you, the pressure is on! I hope I can rise to the occasion and not dissappoint. Reading Bella's journals of late has really affected me on this - amazing how relevant they are to what I am going through - and self sabotage has definitely been on my mind recently. Onward and downward!!

This coming week I get to go to a local elementary school and talk to them about careers in my industry at a 6-hour long career fair. Given that I will be addressing kindergarten through 5th grade - I kind of wish I was a firefighter - not a "scheduler". How boring! Hopefully powerpoint presentations, games, and prizes will make it fun enough as the kids rotate through my room/booth.

It has been so busy the past two weeks that I worry that I am short changing my kids. My oldest continues to progress. His resume is updated and he has a couple of opportunities next week. More importantly, he has a meeting with the college to talk about credit transfers and enrolling. I promised to cover tuition for the summer as long as he completes the FAFSA for help with the Fall and Spring semesters. Middle child is off to the state competition for FBLA next weekend. So proud of him! His headache is still there, but he has been soldiering through. My youngest is going with me today - our goal is to have me looking better (more professional) so that I can represent my company a little better in the community relations role I am embarking on. She wants to be a designer, so making over her mom is right up her alley.

With all of this going on, I still need to watch what I eat and continue to try to sneak in some exercise and "me" time. That seems so tough when sometimes I just want to collapse when I get home. I have been working less (hard to believe; but I am actually down to 50 hours a week instead of 60+), and I want for that to continue. I need to take advantage of the days I have "extra" time and maybe make some meals in advance. Definitely re-instating the menu. That saves me so much time and thought as I walk in and need to decide what is for dinner.

Have a wonderful week and best of luck in all your endeavors!

Amazing journal entry. You are doing so much to help so many. It's good that you are remembering yourself too. When our kids are doing well, we as Moms do well too. Congrats on all the good news. Teri

What she said and beyond. Whenever I feel a whine about my life warming up I think of you and tell myself to buck up :-) major congrats on the position - did you ever imagine? So much in less than a year.. amazing juggler you are. I need your dtr for a weekend - was trying to put an outfit together today and the salesgirl suggested I would look like a walking test pattern. Such accomplishments and progress even given the struggles you've had & obstacles you've dealt with -- good for you! You deserve a major pat on the back & should be so proud! I'm glad the children all seem to be heading in good directions. Someone once told me that as a Mom we're only as happy as our most unhappy child. I've found this to be so true, and am so happy yours seem to be on a happy path again. And, its even more commendable that with all your amazing achievements at work -- big congrats! -- you're finding time for yourself as thats so important too! Hope you had a great mother-daughter day yesterday & can't wait to hear about your new wardrobe & makeover! xoxoxo
