DairyKing's Journal, 29 January 2013

Good Morning, all you FS Warriors! It's a glorious morning here - 60F and drizzly. Predicting heavy rains, and have issued flood warnings. Feast or famine! Love it! "100% chance of rain"; they only say that if the weatherman gets wet on the way to work.

You guys were right about DW and the truck project. I told her last night, "I know you're probably never going to be onboard with this thing, and I'm not asking you to like the idea; but I really want to do it, and what do I have to do for you to tolerate me getting this thing, and not bring it up every time you get mad at me for some unrelated thing?" Bottom line: I promised that, once I get it, I would not touch the project truck until I was done building the kitchen. AND, whatever bonus I get from work is hers, after the real estate taxes are paid - which is usually a pretty good deal for her. But it usually goes right into the checking account and I never see it anyway - so maybe that isn't so great a concession. But it works. :D

Still doing pretty well on the intake. Just before bed, it seems, continues to be my most vulnerable time. But, last night I only picked up three or 4 pieces of pineapple flavored licorice (about 1 1/2 inches long). It seems that I'm feeding my nature to be bad, more than feeding any physical hunger. It's kind of like spending money when I don't have to. Sometimes I'm like a little kid in the Walmart checkout isle, I just don't have that feeling of satisfaction unless I walk out with something. Now, what am I going to do with 25 screwdrivers?

Now, you know all those things you sprinkle on your food, or swallow with a glass of water, claim to allow you to lose the weight without any pain, discomfort or anxiety. Please don't believe any of that crap. It takes discipline, determination, and persistence. It is mind-over-matter, but not in the way you might think. If you concentrate on losing the weight, constantly thinking about what you cannot have, I guarantee you that what you are concentrating on, will control you. You have to have an eating plan and follow it, but other than during the time you are making up your plan, and the time you are actually eating - according to your plan, you need to get on with life, and focus on something else. Boredom, monotony, and procrastination are a dieter's biggest nemesis. I think there's a program out there called "Think Yourself Thin." Now, I have no idea what that program entails, but the concept is legit. A motivational speaker and psychiatrist, Lou Tice, promotes positive affirmation thinking. He doesn't talk about dieting. However, following his concepts, I think you would engage in self-talk all day, something like this: "I am thin; my body just doesn't know it yet. I plan what I eat, and eat what I plan. I am a healthy vibrant person always looking for opportunites to enjoy life." Something like that. If you practice positive affirmation all the day long, pretty soon you'll start believing it yourself, and there won't be any stopping you. As Nike says, "Just do it!" Toodles.

Makes sense. I think it's hardest for me after we've had some sort of event at the house, whether it be holidays or simply a family meal where his mom or my sister is invited over. This past weekend was teen's bday party, and the food totally was NOT worth it. I can usually talk myself down from food "That's not worth the calories for the sacrifice" and be ok. Happy Tuesday!!

I hear you, Zippi. I am certainly not going to blow my eating plan for "filler". Super Bowl Sunday coming up; Yay! I'm not giving up my Superbowl feeding extravaganza, but I am going to plan what I'm going to eat ahead of time. And, I'm going to go light on the other meals so I can indulge a bit. Because "I am a wonderful physical specimen and I am in control of what I choose to nourish this mean, lean fighting machine!

I love your added sections of the journals on advice, the mental part of losing weight, etc. Not that I don't like to read about your day too... but.. you know what I mean!

So happy you are getting your truck project. DH has completed (and sold) 2 so far. I really missed them. If he could make them get 40 MPH I'd of taken out a loan and bought them myself.

Well, Buffy, I still have to win the auction for the one I want. This is going to be truly a project truck - a rust bucket rolling chassis. If it's not 'mission impossible' it's not a challenge. :)

DK - I read the 'think yourself thin' book - I definitely liked the first half where the author discusses, as you wrote, 'instead of focusing on what you 'can't' have, focus on what you 'want'. So instead of saying 'I'm not going to eat that cake' ... because the mind can only comprehend images and therefore just starts thinking CAKE CAKE CAKE until it drives you to the bakery, you MUST replace the image with something you want, is healthy to eat. I really liked that and it has helped me a lot.

I listened to "The Secret" cd twice so that I could firmly plant the positive attitude into my brain. One thing she said was to tape your goal weight number over the readout on your scale. I didn't do that but every morning when I get on the scale I say my goal number 148 and picture that number. So GLAD you brought this up again! We can never hear it enough. :)

Jaime, heard you better get those wings before they run out of them. Predicting that they'll be over $3.00 a pound, but even worse, not enough to go around because of the drought last year.

Glad you get your truck project. I agree with you about what it takes to lose weight. There are no "magic" powders, pills, whatever. I know. I've tried enough of them through the years!!
