WHEN IS A MUG NOT A MUG? When it is a gift given with thought! So as my regular readers may recall I went to Ann Arbor on Saturday with 66.6% of my kids. The other 33.3% had decided to go to their friends house instead of being 'embarassed' by hanging out with his family.

As he is an (almost) 15 year old, I figured it would be more pleasant without a rebellious 'humpy grumpy wish you you could dump him' teen anyway.

Mothers day came around at midnight and he ran into my room bearing a large box and a card. (Being a male he had still left the card in the paper bag it was purchased in!)

He was so excited at having got me something that he even opened my gift on my behalf! Out came a mug. Hmmmm...I try to teach my children that its the thought that is the most expensive so never look down at a gift, but I was a little lost as to why he thought I would need a mug!

"I know its not flowers or perfume but I wanted something practical for you Mom" O.K...well that is definitely practical, I thought. " I know you drink your coffee and tea a lot but I saw you having problems carrying them because of your broken hand so I thought I would get one that wouldnt hurt your hand so much" *sob*

I injured my right hand about 1.5 years ago and damaged a ligament that has never healed. That has made carrying even heavy mugs difficulty and the narrow handles dont allow me to grip mugs very easily.

My darling son had chosen a mug with ergonomic handles wide enough to accomodate all my fingers. The way it is built, it is light and allows the weight to balance so the mug doesnt feel heavy. It even has a thumb rest on top of the handle. My son had bothered to notice such a small thing!!

A moment of remorse hit me when I realised that the whole day I was a little annoyed that he hadnt joined us in Ann Arbor but now I realised why he hadnt come. He had gone with his friend to get ME a Mothers day Gift.

The mug may not look like much but every time I see it, a smile crosses my lips and my heart starts to warm up with satisfaction. I have raised a kind thoughtful son.

That's so sweet, I teared up! Good god, TOM must be on its way for me to be so emotional but, seriously, that was really thoughtful of him.

Awh, thats so sweet!! I'm still waiting on my 12 year old son to even REMEMBER that it was Mother's Day, lol. My daughter made me a fake flower w/ her pic in it in a little flower pot, which I so kindly sat in my kitchen window. Kids..... gotta love em and as for the card in the bag, MY HUSBAND DOES THAT!! He will buy a card for whatever occasion, bring it home... and leave it in the bag until I ask him to write SOMETHING on it, lol.... Men, can't change em!!!

LOL on the card left in the bag. The thoughtfulness of the gift of the mug for you brought a tear to my eyes. What a wonderful son you are blessed with! (I collect mugs so a mug would have been a perfect gift for me too. Hoping my daughter brings me one back from her European travels.) :)
