Start Weight:(16 Jun 09) 166.0 lb
Current Weight:(07 Nov 09) 194.0 lb
Goal Weight:159.0 lb
following: sararay's wisdom nutrition woe
performance: gaining 0.4 lb a week

I am 5'7" tall and muscular. I am currently pregnant with my first baby. (My profile picture is at 19wks pregnant.) I am due the first week of February 2010. My unofficial goal is to stay below 199 lbs, but as long as I eat healthy whole foods I will accept whatever I gain. The midwife said if I gain 30 lbs (that would put me at 196 lbs), I will loose all of it by 6 weeks post partum because that is how much the baby and extra tissue and fluids will weigh.

My main focus is on health. I am doing a whole-foods diet (mostly based on Atkins Maintenance Phase) and I eat gluten-free and soy-free and I limit my dairy. By eliminating foods that I had sensitivities to I healed from Crohn's disease and anemia. By eliminating refined carbs I reduced my cholesterol and body fat percentage before I got pregnant. You can read my full story on my website at wisdomnutrition.info

I love to read and my favorite diet and nutrition books are: "Patient Heal Thyself" and "Restoring Your Digestive Health" by Jordan Rubin; "The Body Ecology Diet" by Donna Gates; "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes; "The Cortisol Connection" by Shawn Talbott; "The South Beach Diet" by Dr. Arthur Agatston; "The Fat Flush Plan" by Ann Louise Gittleman; and "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon.

I love to read and discuss the latest research. Message me any time.

Goals:
Get cholesterol and trigliceride levels down. Met goal! 12/21/07
Get cardio CRP levels normal. Met goal! 10/3/08
During my pregnancy to stay below 199 lbs.

Should we be eating more?
I agree with /0. I just wanted to add that our bodies hunger responses are designed/evolved for telling us if we need more food that is real food. If we are eating nutritionally dense foods (whole foods) our bodies know what to do with that and we are more able to maintain. If we eat nutritionally void foods our bodies still crave the nutrients and we become a lot less self-regulating. The worst culprits are refined sugar and flour. Our bodies are not made to know what to do with that kind of energy. Processed foods have significantly less nutrients per calorie and even the best multi-vitamin does not make up for that.

Carbohydrates
I've counted carbs, protein, calories, etc. Different diets focus on different things. Depending on your gender and activity level and so on, YOUR specific dietary needs are unique.

I am starting to understand that it is a balance of all of the above that you have to find. It is different for everyone. I believe that if you look for a variety of the most nutritionally dense foods, whole foods that are minimally processed you will find that you cover all your bases pretty easily.

Good luck!

Help, working out 6+ hours a week and GAINING?!
The BMI scale is not accurate for everyone. You are right, as long as you are healthy, that is what should matter. Don't let others tell you what your ideal weight should be. You will know it when you get there. (At least that is what I tell myself) Smile

Help, working out 6+ hours a week and GAINING?!
I put on muscle easily too, though I am not as close to my goal weight as you are. I find it helpful to take measurements and have a goal outfit. Also see if you can get your body fat percent tested. I know it isn't that accurate, but when you are toning it can make a difference. I went down 17% body fat and in the same amount of time only lost 5% of my weight. I really committed myself to working out during that time. It can change your size and not the weight, but size means you lose fat. I hope this helps.

The scoop on Splenda?
Try the liquid stevia. It doesn't taste bitter like the powder. I use it in tea and coffee. I have even used it in pumpkin pie.
