HCB's Journal, 06 January 2013

Starting to feel a little bit more myself since we have had three gorgeous, bright, sunny, crispy cold days in a row. Gotta love that sunlight in this climate!

My DH and I laugh at ourselves every year at this time because we often say: "Gee, maybe we should cross-country ski, or take a hike, or skate..." Phhhhtttt...yeah, right! Neither of us like being cold, and I have higher tolerance to cold than him! We definitely are warm weather exercise fans.

My food choices have improved - not perfect - but better than they were last week. I am struggling to get super motivated - Winter is seldom a good time for me. But, I WILL stay with it and do my best.

Still grateful for:

- The people I love who love me back!
- The good health of my loved ones
- My FS Buddies who support and encourage me to continue
- "Butt-kicking" myself to a smaller size today

We had a bit of sun but are back to snowy and dull today. I'm not much of a winter sports person myself - I've done snowshoeing but am sort of hankering to try cross country skiing (which I only ever did once in high school gym class!). Sometimes getting back on track is a slow process with little baby steps taking us there. Just keep picking away at it and eventually it will "click".

Really need the sunshine in the winter, the days are so short. I grew up on the coast and around Novemeber it would start raining and wouldn't stop unil March or April, very depressing.

Well done, HCB. Can't beat improvement of any kind. I'm proud of you.

I keep asking for snowshoes and never get them. I may just have to buy some myself. We haven't had much sun here either and with the snow still covering the ground I think it is easy to become unmotivated. Great job on the willpower! You can and will do this!

Hey lady! The winter can be gloomy but I think most of us are in the same boat. I don't know why, but knowing we are going through this together seems to make me feel better. LOL! No, not misery loves company.... but, the fact we are all trying to recover from the holidays, the cold, and getting back into a healthy routine. Hang in there... keep trying every day. Before long long, we'll all be back in the saddle again, singing "Happy Trails to Us!" ;)

Where I live I sing " raindrops keep falling on my head, and just like the guy whose feet are to big for his bed, nothin' seems to fit, those raindrops are fallin' on my head they keep fallin'. So I just did me some talkin' to the sun. I said I didn't like the way he got things done, sleepin' on the job.....But there's one thing I know, the blues they send to greet me won't defeat me, it won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me. Raindrops keep fallin' on me head But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red Cryin's not for me Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin' Because I'm free Nothin's worryin' me...It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me.......I love these old songs!

HCB I hear you on all points. This time of year is a real struggle. I said the same thing about cross country skiing to DH and he just looked at me like I was crazy. And it would be so easy for us. We have an REI within minutes and trails another 5 minutes away. There is just something about getting started when your bones are cold. Good job on eating better. I am IF ing today hoping for a jump start on the week.
