Herbie's Journal, 11 March 2008

I haven't been doing a good job of staying on track with diet or exercise. Honestly, I should know better than to make proclamations about my goals right at the end of the academic quarter. I'm back to working all day (just wrapping up the day's work now at almost 1 AM) and eating ok, but not fully south beach compliant. Exercise is minimal. Ack! Fortuntately, next week is finals for us so there will be lots of work to do then, but after that I'll have a bit of a break.

One interesting thing is that during our spring break (2 weeks) we'll be visiting my parents in Florida. Last spring break when we were there, my mom and dad introduced me to the South Beach diet and the photos of me on that trip have been my "before" pictures all through this diet process.

So, on the one hand I'm annoyed with myself for working too hard and not taking care of my body like I know I should. But, on the other hand I look at how far I've come in a year and I feel proud of the changes I've made.

Can't get too sentimental about it, though, if I don't make efforts to stay healthy! :)

Herbie, you have definitely gave yourself a reason to feel proud! I recall all those 'before' pics and I think you are going to knock the socks off of mom and dad when they see you! Still, I know how you feel about not eating exactly great lately...but at least you don't have to work very hard to get back on track, right?!

You're such an intelligent and committed woman, I am sure you will manage to keep a handle on things and work it all out with your busy schedules. You are such an inspiration to me and I love watching you work things out and come up with solutions. You're so good at it. You're staying on course with weight so you can't be doing too bad... your steady as a rock! Bet you're glad spring break is coming and Mom and Dad will be so pleased when they see you.

It's so hard to stay on track when you're under a lot of stress. Just hang in there and KEEP THINKING about how far you've come. Try to do what you can when you have time even if it's just 10 minutes, because those 10 minutes add up!

Glad to hear that you're taking some time for R&R. It's been a busy year for you! Just think about the opportunities to take long walks or runs on the beach.
