Fritzy 22's Journal, 14 August 2018

Day 2 of my new start is finished. I really don't like fish. I have some cod in the freezer and decided to stir fry with vegetables. The fish is so boring and tasteless but it gave me 30 grams of protein. It's a struggle every day to get at least 45-60 grams of protein. I had onion, broccoli, carrots and peas in the stir fry. The veggies were good. Need to try to marinate the cod with something next time.

Dear, dear Fritzy, I just read your "new Day One" posts to catch up. We're both on the "restart road"! I'm an all-or-nothing person, too, when it comes to healthy eating/exercise habits. May our renewed focus bring us much success! ... I keep an eye on the CA conflagrations, as an old and dear friend lives in LA. One of the reasons she loves it there -- besides "It's SO not Buffalo, that is! -- is the lovely weather. I can only imagine how difficult it must be, trapped inside due to the smoke. I pray for rain and safety for everone there!

Re: food, do you *have* to eat fish? Feeling forced to eat less-than-palatable favorites is never fun. Perhaps you can find new varieties, and/or recipes that you'd enjoy more. I find that combining fish with my *most* favorite salads and vegetables really helps.

Sorry to hear that the smoke is so close to you! I love salmon the way my friend makes it: put it in a pan, cover it with minced garlic and olive oil, cook 10 minutes and turn to cook on the other side. I eat the skin, she doesn't, but it is yummy. It helps that she eats the fancy salmon from Whole Foods, organic and fresh. Let's get all in with this! New day, new start, every day!

Mira - I really appreciate your support and will keep following you to watch us both succeed in our restarts! I don't have to eat fish. I just need to work hard to get enough protein every day and I bought the cod at Costco over a month ago. It's 30 grams of protein so it was worth eating although tasteless. I've never eaten much fish so maybe I just don't know how to cook it. I tried tilapia a few months ago and it was the same to me as the cod - no flavor at all. I like fish and chips when I am at the coast but I know better than to find a batter recipe and then deep fry the fish. I will use up the rest of the fish in stir frys. I'm kind of limited for protein sources. My doctor says no processed meat (trying to my inflammation down to the normal range). And because of my high cholesterol scare at the end of last year I gave up beef, egg yolks and shrimp for about 6 months at which time all cholesterol readings were within the normal range. Now I am allowing myself some beef (no more than once a week) and up to 4 eggs a week. But lunch meat and processed meats that I love, I just really try to avoid. So it's chicken, chicken, chicken and once a week, tuna and beef.

Abba - I've never eaten salmon, maybe I'll have to try it. I know it is supposed to be so good for the heart.

I don't care for fish, either. About the only way I can do it is picatta style with butter and capers. Deep fried with tartar sauce works great, too, but that's how I got these pounds...

I’ll bet if you Google “tasty ways to cook fish” you will come up with some ideas! All Recipes has some great recipes too! I’m wondering if something with Balsamic Vinegar would give a nice kick to fish. Just a thought! Good to know you re-started your food program! Keep it going!

I really like fish but to me tilapia and some cod really is tasteless. Salmon, tuna, the fatty fishes are better for you and they taste so good. I use a bit of olive oil in the pan, a little diced garlic and lemon juice for extra flavor. Simple but delicious.
