Emily Little 's Journal, 14 August 2018

I need hel[p on exercise. I had a baby 10 months ago and I love to work out. The only problem is that I can't do the workouts that burn lots of calories. anything involving jumping or moving up and down I can't do. Whenever I do jumping jacks high knees, burpees, etc. I pee. It's not like I do it intentionally it just comes out. Any tips or exercises that won't make me pee? I am really committed to this so really anything helps.

first off, I totally get what you're going through and it sucks! I got to the point where I was basically dehydrating myself before a workout, peeing right before I started, and still having issues with leakage. Unfortunately but fortunately I guess kegels weren't the problem. I went to a urologist and my control was fine for coughing, sneezing, and laughing. It was literally just jumping which made the boot camp I went to frustrating. I'd wear a double panty liner and it seemed to be enough but I hated it. I made a choice I wish I could take back. I got a bladder sling put in. while I no longer leak there are more issues than pros to me! Nowadays I see special underwear and pads specifically for leakage and wish I'd known about them 6yrs ago! Since I'm not you I don't know if some extra kegels are your answer, but if it's just a matter of leaking a bit from jumping and impacts, at least for now it may be worth it to try some of those new products before giving up the workouts you love.

work out with your baby. lay on your back and put baby on your shins, bring your knees to your chest, then lift your lower legs up and down great for the tummy and baby loves it. look on line, I'm sure you'll find more ideas.

Core exercises. It'll help strengthen that part of your body. I use to have the same issue, although nvr had a baby. Just had a super weak core. Took 2 years of running/core workouts to stop that.

Step ups vs. Jumps. You can change the Burpees by stepping down (1 leg at a time) vs jumping down & the same coming up, ie stepping up

do you have access to a swimming pool? it's a great way to burn major calories without impact of other forms of cardio.

angp53 My daughter was born on October 5. Our babies are most likely close in age. Also, the only thing I drink is water. Sometimes a have coffee but really not often. It's really just about the food.

water aerobics. there are a variety of groups out there with lots of workouts. I do an hour and a half session three times a week in deep water without a flotation device. also boxing can be done without bouncing around. you can get great upper body and cardio. all the best finding the workout that fits your needs.

This is a great question, and you are probably helping a lot of women in the same situation by putting it out there. I recommend slower paced exercises until the problem is resolved. To correct the unwanted leakage issue, def get some silicone covered weights on amazon to do kegels with; they improve lots of things in that area.

I’ve just read an article in a Brazilian magazine about it. It’s quite common, especially for women who have had children, but it’s perfectly possible to correct it with exercises that strengthen the so-called pelvic floor

Look for pelvic floor exercises on google

I agree with NP2011. I have given birth to a singletons and a set of twins and this is a normal issue to come with it. Doing kegels and pelvic floor exercises will help in the long run. However if you feel you are ready for stronger workouts now there's no reason to put getting and feeling healthy on hold. It is never a problem and no one else will know to just wear panty liner or a Poise or something to help you for the time being. :-)
