hungrymama16's Journal, 15 January 2016

I was in bed last night and I just felt awful. I realized I need to lose weight. I want to because I don't like how I look, but the bottom line is I NEED to for my health. I'm an emotional eater, and I love eating, but lately food is just making me sick. I've noticed the affect its having on my body. I haven't had a Coke in a couple weeks and I had one the other day. Maybe two hours later I had the worse headache. I tried taking exedrine and drinking coffee, but the only way I could get relief was drinking another Coke. Of course later that night I woke up with a headache. Insane! After that night I swore I'd never drink another Coke, mt dew or any kind of pop again. I haven't craved one either. That's a first. Usually when I stop drinking or eating something I crave it. This time around I'm more aware of the negative impact it has on me. Anyways, I'm excited to lose weight. I know it'll be tough, but I have to. I want to look back and just be proud of how far I've come instead of being disappointed.

I think you are going through caffeine withdrawal. If you drink soda try for caffeine free, sugar free.

I switched to iced tea. It took me several tries but I finally broke the soda addiction. One unexpected result was that I found it just wasn't caffeine I was craving but also the sugar. It's been about six months and my stomach feels way better. It is totally worth it, so don't give up.

The fact that you are aware of how crappy you feel is a good indication that you are ready to do something about your food intake and lifestyle. Even little changes help. I find the less refined carbs I eat, the less hungry I am. Good luck, there are so many ways you can accomplish good health and healthy weight.

I switched from Mountain Dew to Plain Ice tea and water. It took me a few tries too. Now I drink all kinds of different teas no calories and natural antioxidants!

My wife went through similar issues. At one time I kept wondering why she would stay up all night playing video games or doing housework until we found out she is hyper caffeine sensitive. When she switched to Caffeine Free she was finally able to sleep at night. And since I became a Science Teacher and found out what Diet Sodas do to your body and bones, I haven't had a soda since March of last year. I now drink Tea and other similar beverages. Good Luck during your transition.

that's a really big step and you should pat yourself on the back. Beating a sugar addiction is very tough. If that is the only caffeine you get you're getting a double whammy. The sugar cravings can get intense for about 3.5 days then it tapers way off. I know. I did it. Learning all the names for sugar helped and label reading. Please do yourself a favor and don't replace the regular stuff with diet. Educate, Educate, Educate.

Thank you all for the advice! I think I'll try the tea out. I'm not a huge fan of tea, but I'm sure at the moment I'm so used to all the sugar in my drinks that it's going to taste off for a little bit.

I spent a lot of time searching for recipes that were easy, healthy & filling. Hours & hours to be honest. That was my key to success when I started my journey 5 years ago & I kept the weight off for 4 years. 2015 was the year of eating out & falling off the wagon. Luckily I jumped back on the wagon before I lost all of my progress. I got my recipes out again & started planning meals & am SO happy. I forgot how much I like to cook, I fell into eating out all the time & making bad choices. My point is, it's just as easy to make good choices & not ever be hungry Because of eating good food. Good luck on your journey!

Look into veganism lifestyle :-) im not a crazy vegan trying to force u with anything but there are so many people (and me) who believe it is the most healthy lifestyle to live and also it cured so many people from there whatever-eating-disorder they might have! i had issues with binge eating but it just go so much better when i started veganism. Cutting out dairy from my diet made a huge difference on my body like i stopped feeling so bad and everything. Its fucking awesome :-D I had no idea! Earlier I was a binge eater to the max. I could eat 1 bag of chips, 400-800 g chocolate, 1 bag of cookes + ice cream + candy in like 1 hour, NO JOKE.

Start by writing everything down AND in this program. It makes you so aware of what you are eating. It has taken me a month to really realize what I was eating. Also when you make a definite change in your life it takes your brain 6 weeks to make that change. We are all in this together.

Hungrymama16, you made a good choice joining this group. The best thing I have found that helps me the most is keeping my food journal. I can really see what I'm eating, and make other choices if I don't make the best choices. I have some helpful FS friends that encourage me along. I used to be hooked on Diet Cokes. I was able to add flavoring to my water instead, and before long I didn't have my 3:00 Diet coke craving. Good luck and before long you'll be reaching for good foods you never thought you would eat! You deserve to feel better, and so do I!! c ya

Whenever you eat, stop doing anything else and pay attention to the food; how it tastes, how it feels in your mouth, how it smells. Maybe always eat in one place, and plan your food so that you have something to look forward to. Write down what you eat and how you feel while you are eating. This is a great way to begin paying attention to you and your needs, and caring for yourself. It is one thing I did years ago that helped gain control of food-mood eating.

Gosh, I was a Mt. Dew-holic! I could have lived without food as long as I had my Dew. Now, I can't stand the taste of it. Never saw that one coming! I also hated coffee. Now, I love it! I even enjoy it (and tea) plain and unsweetened. It's all about getting away from the additiction of sugar, creating new habits, and retraining the taste buds. You can and WILL do this! (((HUGS)))
