Going to Outback for a family birthday dinner. I already have like 500 calories today and I'm dreading the menu once I get there knowing I'll probably go over my 1500. Always with my family, after that there will be drinks. Everyone is going to say oh it's only one day, you deserve a cheat day, but I don't want to use that as an excuse to do whatever every time I go out to dinner.

I'm going to take a look at their menu before hand so I don't go way over, try to sip on one drink, and switch to water late on in the night! So glad this isn't a normal thing. How do people survive going out to eat with friends and family who love to always go out?

Look at the menu online first! You can easily get a small steak and asparagus, a salad, etc. I go there and stay on track - the key is to see the menu before you show up and order exactly what fits for your calories.

My family was supportive about me losing my weight. So when I was with them they understood and didn't push me into anything that was not my choice. The adults all drink beer as do most of my friends, if I was drinking water, it was fine. HCB has good advice.

HCB is right, I frequent some places alot so I know before I sit down what I am ordering. There is confidence in that. Also I tend to order first and then am not stressed or comparing my meal choice with others at the table with me. Reduces temptation. ALOT.

Outback has great choices for low calorie and healthier options. Grilled steak, no sauce, and the grilled or steamed veggies. I opt for vinegar and oil with the house salads that way I can control the dressing.

Thanks guys! I was spot on at Outback with just a piece of salmon and steamed broccoli, but slipped afterward with a sliver of birthday cake. Going to work out today and get back on track for Monday!

I have no idea how people do that either. We eat out maybe once or twice a month and then it's usually an event. You're usually fine unless you hear in your head 'Oh what the heck. I'll have a..."

You did all the right things -- planning ahead/researching menu, etc. -- one other trick if you choose a higher calorie option is to ask server to 'doggie bag' half the meal before serving -- you can save for the next day or give away to someone else.

In reality it is more than just that one day . There will always be birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc... etc.. that we tend to celebrate with food. Stick to your guns and not give in to what others say to you. You can do this!
