mars2kids's Journal, 01 July 2015

I can't believe it's July 1st already! This year is flying by. My kids have about 6 weeks left of summer break and they're already dreading going back to school. :)

I came to the realization the other day that as I've gotten older I must have gotten more comfortable with myself than I used to be and didn't even know it. When I was about 20 lbs lighter and a teenager, things I do now would have mortified me. Even going for a run in town would have been embarrassing to me. Now, if I want to throw on some shorts and a tank top and go for a run, I don't care what anyone else thinks. If I look ridiculous when I'm running who cares? At least I'm doing something. Maybe I don't have the perfect toned arms and legs for shorts and a tank top, but it's comfortable, so if anyone is bothered that's their own problem. I look at my daughter and she's about the same shape I was at her age, but doesn't seem to have a lot of the insecurities I had growing up. She does wear things out of comfort, she wears a bikini to the pool, she doesn't think she'll look silly doing things or doesn't care, and I'm so glad. I don't know why I got to thinking about these things, but it just hit me. Comfort has started winning out over negative self image. Maybe it's just some wisdom coming with age, but I'm so glad I can be a little more comfortable in my own skin now.

Well, that's about it for me today. Not much going on. I hope everyone has a great Hump Day!!

Since I have become more aware of how much hard work goes into getting fit and healthy, I have gained an appreciation for the folks I see running or biking around the neighborhood. Sure, there are the extremely athletic looking people out there, but the ones who often catch my eye are the folks who are out there trying, even though it is a struggle. I always send a little positive energy their way. So, good for you for getting out there and doing it! :)

Your daughter has no insecurities because you are a good role model for her. She sees you being comfortobale in shorts so why shouldn't she be ;-)

I agree...who cares what other people think...at least I'm doing something. I've even been out running and had a teenager tell me 'good job'. And when I see people out exercising, I think 'good job'. So Mars, good job!!
