I had my lunch all planned out for today. I was going to eat a bowl of leftover beef vegetable soup. Came home for lunch and found that someone beat me to it. So, I've had to scavenger hunt for lunch. I just consumed 965 calories for lunch of a quick combination of whatever I could find: cereal, ham, cheese, peanut butter, soup. Not even good combinations. Teenagers are like locusts. They swarm though your house devouring everything in sight, including healthy things they proclaim are "gross" like my beef vegetable soup. I wouldn't mind it half as much if they simply ate the healthy food, but one in particular eats the healthy foods and also buys food at school and fast food restaurants before and after school. So much for trying to plan my caloric consumption for the day. This empty nest syndrome I hear people talk about....Do I get to throw a party or celebration when I get this syndrome? And, how much longer do I have to wait to be stricken with it?

LOL. I've had those days too, you have a plan and once it's smashed you grab a bunch of stuff not even thinking, just hungry and eating what you can find. No teenagers yet, but I do have a hubby who's unpredictable. Hopefully the rest of the day today and tomorrow will be better.

I have a pot of pinto beans on so I am hoping I can get home by a reasonable hour and before the locust swarm devours it all. If I stick to 1/2 cup of pinto beans for dinner, all won't be lost today.

I can relate! I have a 17 yo, 15 yo & 11 yo. They gripe bc I don't buy any junk food but then they clean out my pantry and also get junk food from the neighbors!! It's gotten to the point that I want to lock my fridge and pantry!!

Empty nest syndrome will tear you up for a few months, then you will sit back and say, "damn", this is nice.

Yup.. been there - even w/girls. Blondie & her buddies were like vacuums. I never felt the empty nest syndrome once; mostly relief. But I've never been mother of the year either.
