David Ackerman's Journal, 02 January 2013

Well, a lot has happened in my life since my last post. Looking back at my journal entries, it's funny to see me stressing out about gaining weight from 200 to 205. Now I'm 295. I has been several years since then, and I've slowly crept up over that time.

It all started with breaking my ankle at a party right before moving to California in 2010... put me out of exercise and into a new environment. I was joining Google, and they have food EVERYWHERE. I resisted for a while, but definitely had a hard time not overeating. By the time my ankle healed, I was mostly out of the work-out mindset. I don't want to blame the ankle fully though - I still could have gotten right back on the horse and taken control of my life, but instead I continued to not worry about what I ate.

I've since switched jobs and really focused on my mental abilities - working on side projects and trying to live life to the fullest. I am now engaged to the girlfriend I was mentioning in a previous post, and couldn't be happier in those respects. My weight and appearance is the ONE thing that still really bothers me, and It's preventing me from being as happy as I can be.

I have about 3 months to lose as much as I can before our wedding (and the tailor needs the final suit sizes), but that won't be the end of the story. I know I can't lose 95+ pounds in that amount of time, so this will be a longer term goal than that (as it should be). Hopefully in the future I can take another picture with my wife once I've lost the weight, and I can look back at this time with a smile on my face.

There are many days where I feel like it's too late for me - like there is no way I can get back to the weight I was before. However, I must remember - it is ALWAYS better to choose to improve yourself today, no matter what has happened in the past. You ALWAYS have the freedom to start anew, and change your habits.

Sounds like your life is falling into a great place! Congrats on all the great changes and new adventures. And of course good luck in your weight loss. You are so right: You do ALWAYS have the freedom to start anew, and it is ALWAYS better to improve yourself each day. Very wise.
