Sandy701's Journal, 17 September 2012

My walking got rained out this morning. But that's OK, as there's still a ton of work to get done here at home.

The bedroom looks great with its new color, but I couldn't mask off every little bit where there was blue, so I've got this blue line peeking through here and there around the various trim pieces. I suppose, in retrospect, I should have tackled painting the trim or doing something to prevent this from happening, but I didn't think it would. Darn. So, instead of moving on with cleaning the rugs and moving things back in, I'll spend most of the day up on the ladder (again!) and crawling around on the floor (again!) with my super fine brushes, carefully and painstakingly covering that nagging blue color!!!!!

At least this makes me think about how to avoid this when I do the next bedroom this weekend. Same yellow color going in but this time it will be covering a bright lime green. Must have been a kid's bedroom......

I'm missing my walking exercise, as last Thursday was the last day I went. Otherwise, I've been tackling this painting project and by the time I finish each day, I'm just out-of-sorts and don't want to do anything. At least yesterday I went in the pool, as the water was delightfully WARM. With the rain coming and dropping the overnight temperatures, the water will be cooling off. I wasn't sure just how much more swimming we'll be doing this year, so I forced myself to get in there and swim a few laps. It was great and I'm glad I made myself go do that.

I really wanted to go work at the thrift store this afternoon, but with all this work here at home, I don't think I can afford the time away. I need the break that work will give me, but there's a limit to how much work here at home I'm willing to postpone, if I go there.

OK....raining again.....big time. Time to make my own breakfast and tackle that fine line painting that awaits me.

That is the same way I learn my lessons - by doing the job over again. Have fun in the 2nd bedroom - bright lime green - how restful!

Buffy, what really kills me is that I can tell that the color they painted over to change it to lime green was a wonderful shade of......you guessed it.....YELLOW!!! If the bedroom were a person, they'd say, "Make up your mind!"

Thanks Gigi. My dad hated it too, so perhaps I inherited the hate-to-paint gene.

90% of us are born with the "hate to paint gene". I go through my house and spot clean my walls - does less and less good. One of these days I'm going to bite the bullet and actually paint.

What is it about painting...a seemingly simple project that turns into a forever feeling kind of one. I don't know about you guys, but, when I paint, not only do I get paint everywhere its not supposed to be, (me, the floor, the furniture, the dog, the cat...etc), BUT...the worst part is, I start seeing things...like I SWEAR I can still see the color I was trying to cover up, a little bit more here...there...oh, & There too? Next thing you know, I haven't made any real progress & sucked up oodles of paint. I end up actually hating both colors...the one I am covering & the one I am painting. The only words of wisdom I have learned is...painting the same color is way easier, don't be in a hurry & be patient...oh, & buy the best paint you can afford...brushes too for that matter. Come to think about it...probably, you got more excercise up & down the ladder than you would have walking!

Congratulations on tackling the painting, I gave up painting our rooms several years ago, I'm getting to old to go up and down a ladder, now I just pay someone to do it... keep up the good work !

This past summer painting my bedroom and one other room were two goals that my hubbie and I accomplished! I had cut in around all the trim in my room when I decided I did not like the color! It took three more rounds of cutting in with the new color to cover it up. I love the color now, it is called "popcorn", but what a job... We ended up using the original paint in the other room and it looks lovely in there. It had been about 10 years since the last time either room had been painted. I bought new bedspread and curtains and took up the area rug that had been in that room for 34 years!!! LOL
