Sharlotka

A Russian apple cake, made with less sugar.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Grease a pan with oil, use a little flour to flour the pan. Pre-heat oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
  2. Core, quarter and slice apples fairly thinly (1/4-1/8"). Arrange about 2/3 of the slices on the bottom of the pan.
  3. Beat the eggs with the sugar using a wooden spoon or a spatula. When well incorporated, stir in the flour. Batter will be thick. You can add a dash of cinnamon.
  4. Pour about 1/2 the batter over the apples, spread to cover them all.
  5. Arrange 1/2 of remaining apple slices on the batter.
  6. Cover with remaining batter, spreading over.
  7. Top with remaining slices. Bake for about 25 minutes.

This is almost like the apple pie sharlotka. Both are alike except for the sugar. I am trying the other, so will try this one too and see which I like best (Hmmmmmm).
