I intentionally didn't take my Aleve this morning.

That may seem like no big deal, but I have been taking Aleve, or some pain reliever for at least 10 years, maybe closer to 20 years, both morning and night. I have arthritis in my knees, hips, ankles, back, shoulders, neck...you name it.

I had been noticing that my pain has been much less recently, so I figured I would see how I felt unmedicated. Had a few aches and pains through the day, which was pretty active, but not much different than how I used to feel medicated. That is amazing to me.

What has changed? My diet. Eliminating foods that I had intolerances to, and I recently added collagen in the morning to my version of bulletproof coffee. I had read a lot recently about collagen being helpful in healing muscles and joints, so I decided to give it a try. Don't know if it is strictly diet, or the collagen, but whatever it is, I am loving it! I will continue to monitor and see if I can only occasionally take something. Fingers crossed!

Reading Jimmy Moore's new book, Keto Clarity. Thought I knew a lot about low carb eating, but I am learning even more. I am questioning if I need to really tighten up more on my carbs in order to get the scale to move the way it needs to. I have been noticing it has been a bit higher than I am comfortable with since I tried J.J. Virgin's diet. I think it was helpful to me to go through the elimination and identify several foods (eggs, dairy and nightshades) that were causing reactions for me. It helped the weight start moving, and for that I am grateful. But, I think my system is exquisitely sensitive to carbs. I have let more fruit and grains slip in, plus regular consumption of some extra dark chocolate (85-90%). While it has great anti-inflammatory properties, I think I may need to scale back how much of it I eat. Perhaps just the unsweetened cocoa in my protein shakes. The shakes are problematic as well. Definitely need to eliminate the berries in those. Eating them less frequently as well.

It is always a challenge when I start tweaking my diet for whatever changes. I feel like I am still adjusting to no dairy or eggs, and no tomatoes (killer!) or peppers. Now I have to try and move my carbs down further. That is going to be a challenge to find a comfortable place again. It is out there. I am sure. It is just challenging to find it sometimes. If you told me I could find comfort with all the other changes I have made and can more easily sustain; no sugar, wheat or corn, eating more meat, and drinking shakes with spinach in them!...I would have truly doubted my willingness to sustain these things. But each came with rewards in how I felt and how I performed. And dramatic improvements in my health measures, in spite of still being obese. So, I believe that I will find that place again of comfort, reinforced by a positive outcome. It is there, and I just need to keep working to find my personal sweet spot.

Onward.
