I am a 48 year old woman who has decided to take back the control of my life. I am a married woman of 13 years, and the mother of six children, four of whom live at home. This past year found my 28 and 27 year old sons moving back in, the 27 year old with my 2 year old granddaughter. My 17 year old daughter, and 12 year old son are still at home also.
I was on Atkins in 2001 and went from over 300 pounds to 154. Then my now 16 year old daughter went through some major issues (she has bipolar and is non medication compliant) and my husband has some medical issues that have time-consuming. In between all of this, I work full time, and somehow lost myself in the process.
I have been unhappy since the new year, and have decided to take back my life. Atkins, the gym, and the feelings I get are coming back... to stay this time.

I'm switching diets
Hi Yogigirl,
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions...especially here. But I need to let you know that I am a staunch supporter of the Atkins Way of Life. When I was working the program correctly years ago, I never felt like I was dieting. Medically, I was in the best health ever. My doctor was concerned about me following Atkins and would constantly do lab work trying to disprove the diet, so that I would change. But all my lab work always came back better from the time before. I did take calcium and vitamin supplements while doing Atkins. Yes, I did put the weight back on- not due to Atkins, but because I was going through some major life stressors and am an emotional eater.
I am back on Atkins and, even though it is only the first week, I already feel the difference in my body!
Read the book. Another book, that describes the medical benefits of following a low carb diet is Protein Power by the Drs. Eades.

> 50 lb. Wait Loss
Hi Paige! I want in on the 50+ Club too. AS you already know I need to lose about 150 pounds and am just starting on Induction. I know that I did it before so I can do it again. One of the best supports I had back then was Whooshfriends but the site has closed. So I needed to find another support site, as I don't have the support I need at home. Everyone here eats carbs and as they are all in their 20s and teens- there is no changing the menus here! The more support the better I stay on track!

looking for buddies on the atkin plan
Hi, Vrlaw1999! I am 48 and the mother of six and married for 13 years (this time). My 28 yo and 27 yo sons have moved back in - the 27 yo with my 2 yo granddaughter. My 17 yo daughter and my 12 yo son still live at home, and my house, also, is the drop in spot for all their friends! So I can totally relate!
Welcome to fatsecret and back to atkins!
I, too, have lost weight previously on Atkins (went from over 300 to 154), and am back again. Atkins is the only diet that ever worked for me, without the 'feel' of being on a diet.
So, if you are still looking for a buddy, I, too, am looking for one!!!
Good Luck!

Adding texture
I, too, do the pepperoni chips. Unfortunately they do not last long around here- my kids love them! As they also love the cheddar cheese chips I make. I used the shredded cheese, lay it on a cookie sheet, lined with parchment paper, sprinkle spices on it, and bake it in a 350 oven until it is bubbly. Let it sit on the counter until cooled. Break into pieces. It tastes like Cheeze-its- without the carbs!
