Start Weight
275.4 lb
Lost so far: 13.8 lb

Current Weight
261.6 lb
Performance: gaining 0.4 lb a week

Goal Weight
210.0 lb
Still to go: 51.6 lb
I was in shape most of my life until the age of 28 when I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. My weight went from a built 185 to a fat 260 in 6 months time. I fought a constant battle with it, with it ballooning at one point to 298 pounds, until early this year when I found Dr. Heim at the Tampa Health Center. After blood work confirmed that both my thyroid levels were off and my testosterone was abnormally low he put me on an injection regimen and switched my thyroid med from synthroid to natural full thyroid. Since then my strength has been moving to my 20's level and, though my weight is coming off slowly, my bodyfat has decreased and inches on waist has gone from 55 to 49 inches in 5 months. I am now working out 4-5 days per week and feeling 100% better. I have lost 44 pounds and current hovering ion the 255 range. The goal is a healthy 210 pounds.

What was the catalyst that made you decide to lose weight?
I am with Crowned on this one. I was staring 47 in the face and got on the scale and was 298 pounds. I was NOT going to let myself hit 300. NOT. That was in April 2010. I sought out a weight management doctor (actual doctor Smile) and have since been losing consistently, if sporadically. I am now around 254 and in training for two (TWO) triathlons next year for motivation.

The Best Time To Weigh Yourself
Also, in addition, I have found that its not always the weight that is important, it's the inches. I was bothered back in June because I was losing NO weight for about a month (I was in the 280 range at that time) but my pant size went from 48 to 44. I was gaining muscle and losing fat, but the weight was remaining. Easy to get discouraged if you use just weight as the barometer. Use clothes fit. I am down to a 40 waist now and right at 253 pounds (and the 40's are loose but can't keep buying clothes!) Good problem to have though.

The Best Time To Weigh Yourself
As long as your consistent with how you weigh yourself I don't think it matters. Personally I weight after my shower and any "elimination" that is needed Smile

I have found on the days I see my doctor that their scale is always about 3-4 pounds heavier than my scale, but the weight loss is the same (i.e. if I weight 253 at home and it's a pound loss, their scale has me at 256 but also a pound loss). So the weight loss number is correct, if not the total weight matching.

Leukemia Team in Training
As part of my current journey I need to raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) as a participant in their Team In Training program so I'm asking for help by making a donation to my fundraising campaign.

Please use the link in this email to donate online quickly and securely plus learn more about my progress. You will receive a confirmation of your donation by email and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation.

http://pages.teamintraining.org/sun/anttry11/jharris0gs

Each donation helps accelerate finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. More than 823,000 Americans are battling these blood cancers. I am hoping that my participation in Team In Training will help bring them hope and support.

On behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, thank you very much for your support. I greatly appreciate your generosity.

I would appreciate it if you would forward this link to as many people as you can to encourage them to donate as well. Thanks again.
