I live in New Hampshire - my husband and I live on a small farm with chickens and a couple of mini donkeys outside, and tropical fish, a turtle, and a geriatric (but very cute) Yorkshire Terrier indoors. I grow a bunch of houseplants and tend a veggie bed, berries, a flower bed, and a bunch of shrubs and trees in the yard during the summer.

I've always been in the officially "overweight" category, but my health has been good - I've been a vegetarian since 1978, which probably has been helpful in that regard... High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease run in both sides of my family. Last year I discovered that my cholesterol is going up, despite my reduction in fat consumption and increase in exercise - I haven't eaten an egg yolk since December! At this point it's up to 233 (HDL - 69; LDL - 143; Triglycerides - 100) - in August, my doctor will check again and decide if I need meds or not. I'm hoping this site will help me avoid the statins...

Diablo, I agree about the need to weigh stuff out, at least at first - when I first started weighing out ingredients and servings, it was a huge eye opener... I discovered that I'd been "eyeballing" myself into an extra 300-500 calories a day! I'll keep weighing for a bit (I'm a slow learner!), but I'll probably eventually go back to eyeballing once I'm used to seeing what a REAL serving looks like! Smile

I asked the folks in charge of FS about this... they said it was okay for me to put in all the ingredients for recipes I was making as a "My Recipe" on this site and just not publish it if it wasn't original. Then I can just pop it into the meal list later. So I take recipes from cookbooks or that I find on the web, put in the ingredients and number of servings into a new recipe, and just pop in the URL or book title and page number for instructions... as long as I don't try to publish it as my own recipe, the folks at FS said that this is fine. Smile I discovered that if you decide to change the recipe at some point, the meals already entered do not change. I hope that helps!
