northernmusician's Journal, 26 January 2016

Okay. Let's log this one. Oy! I know I'm in calories. The mirror seems to show more definition than a week ago, but the weight is rising. The only thing that I can think of that may be happening is that the creatine loading, which I though was happening early on, is only now loading properly after 3 weeks of taking it. In any case, I'm not worried. I look okay, don't you think? Still around 18%.

Two cartoons today. The second one is for 8hunter6 who has recently given up a vegan diet.

192.6 lb Lost so far: 7.4 lb.    Still to go: 0.6 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

You look great. How many grams per serving in the LeanFit Whey Protein Shake? I think the first cartoon is very funny, I don't get the second cartoon.

Not a cartoon. It's a butcher's diagram. :0

I take creatine HCL when I'm cutting, just because there is a lot less water retention and no loading. Love me some Monohydrate during bulking though. Don't forget, if you're eating plenty of red meat you're probably getting quite a bit of creatine already, which may be where the bloat is coming from.

If that's not the pot callin' the kettle black.

At 4 x 5g per day for 4 days....then 5g per day after, you would reach saturation in about 2 weeks versus 4 weeks of 5g per day. With Creatine you want the water retention...other than that you're well on-track, still at 18%..hmm maybe a bit on the high side, 17% i reckon.

You know muscle weighs more than fat right? If you're putting on muscle then your weight will go up and your BMI will go down. Sounds like that's what is happening. Good job!

@stressful. Muscle "weighs" the same as Fat. BMI is a ridiculous calculation that does not take into account mass composition...only mass itself. It doesn't care if you are 9% Body Fat, or 20% body fat...all it know is total mass. As northern builds more muscle, he can expect his BMI to increase, while at the same time his Body Ft % will go down...given his diet stays in check.

@mahjohn Its a common misnomer on this site. I believe stressful meant something different than what she said. While 1 lb of fat and 1 lb of muscle weigh the same, 1 cubic inch of fat and 1 cubic inch of muscle do not weigh the same due to density differences. Although I did notice that you used quotations over "weighs", so obviously you know this already, but I figured I'd clarify. Also, I agree the BMI scale should be eliminated from the medical books.

@chadlius88...I know...just playing around. BMI or (Quetelet Index) is a disgrace. Health Insurance companies and Dr's all say..."well...it doesn't apply to everyone", but yet they still apply it to everyone. Some firms have tried to apply BMI to deny employment and to remove people from employment. FYI....my BMI is 26.54 <smh>

Just checked my BMI. it's 26.9. I'm overweight according to the results. I think the avatar says something different.

You are looking great! I've always heard that your weight will naturally go up if your diet is steady and you are gaining more muscle. Is this a misconception?

Don't forget to take into account your height, body type, and frame size. It's all relative.
27 Jan 16 by member: 1point21gigawatts
I think that's right, Jill. If you're working out and diet is solid, muscle gains will add weight but it will not look like fat gains. I think the tendency is to tighter and slightly higher mass.
