nicholaix's Journal, 01 January 2016

Undoubtedly a couple pounds are water etc from the Chinese food last night but the rest is all my completely unmindful eating over the last two weeks. The same thing happened last year. Because while I was very careful to eat only my 'plan' foods, I paid no attention at all to portions and calories. A bite of this, a cup of that, and social eating all caught up to me.
I am not going to whine about it or have a pity party. I learned something very important that may seem obvious but I had forgotten. If I eat an extra pounds worth of calories, regardless of where they came from, I will gain a pound.
I am going to get out the measuring cups and start being strict about recording food again. Because I am good and mad that I managed to blow it again and not even notice.

You didn't 'blow it' if you've recognized it and halted it in its tracks . . . I'm exactly the same way -- if I don't record, I go way too far off book. Hit 'reset' and move (and look) forward! Happy New Year!

We learn so much from the small gains, don't we? Really more even than we learn from the losses. I understand exactly what you're saying and I agree. I'm realizing myself that it really is important to weigh and measure everything, because when I do, I eat more mindfully, really savoring each bite, and realize every time when I'me finished that I truly have had enough, I really don't want anything more. It's learning what I like to say is that my mouth might want more, but my tummy doesn't! Good for you! You got this!

Snacking=weight gain for me. I find drinking hot green tea throughout the morning and water in the p.m. keeps me from eating between meals.

As the British say "Keep calm and carry on." It's not easy, for me losing weight is much harder than quitting smoking. Love the tools this site provides because it makes it easy to keep track of your food, calories eaten and burned. It really helps me stay on track as long as I'm honest.🐱

Don't feel too bad it's that time of the year just think positive and restart it might take more than one restart but don't give up. A lot of us are in the same boat.

Been there, done that. I watched pretty close this year. Cut very hard some days and was a gourmand on the others.

Northern-I "tagged" along on some of your fast days. Is a "gourmand" when I was snarfing all the sugary goodies???? LOL

1. A gourmand is a person who takes great pleasure and interest in consuming good food and drink. 2 A gourmand has also been defined as a person who is "a glutton for food and drink" The sugar cookies would have been involved in the second definition. :)

Yes, I am both definitions!
