katies71's Journal, 21 April 2019

Hey guys! I'm feeling better today than I did yesterday so hopefully I'll be able to get in some more walking. Nothing too strenuous but it's kind of nice so I want to at least get in some quality outdoor time. I can't walk in the yard, it's too lumpy and I will fall. Tried yesterday and quickly realized my foolishness. I will try again when my balance is better. I'm not really losing weight yet but boy were they telling the truth about diminished appetite. I really struggled yesterday to make my minimum protein goals (65-80g of protein). I am drinking smarter today, just having my protein drinks until I get closer to goal then I can let myself have some plain water. I'm really craving the ice cold water right now...I don't even want anything else. They tell you that you won't be able to drink more than a sip or two at a time but they cannot prepare you for the reality of it. I literally CANNOT drink more than a sip or two at a time. I am drinking more at a time today than I was yesterday though so...clearly things are looking up! I woke up at 8am yesterday and didn't go to sleep until 2am so that I could get to my minimum protein goal. Woke up at 10am today and I'm doing better than I did yesterday already but again...they cannot prepare you for the reality of not being hungry at all and not being able to drink much. It's sooooo weird!

Glad you are doing better. Yes that sounds like a whole different world. You will probably get more used to it as time goes on

Glad to hear a report, Katie! I've been wondering how you are doing. So glad to hear that you are recuperating nicely. Remember, do the coughing! I didn't after my surgery, and got pneumonia. NOT fun! Yes, I used to drink from a 1-gallon jug, chugging my water. That ended abruptly when I had GBS! Now, I can drink a lot more and a lot faster, but I'm 13 years out! DO work on that protein goal, because Protein makes you HEAL. Remember, when you get the money, you might want to try ordering the Unjury! It was a really good Protein shake and could be added to sugar-free jello or pudding so you didn't have to drink it all the time. Keep up the good work! Don't worry about reporting in for the challenges, but DO keep reporting in your Journal so we know not to worry about you!

Yeah no more chugging lol. The Unjury is definitely my next purchase! I like mixing with everything so that my protein goal is easier to meet. Right now I'm living on the Isopure and I'm already sick to death of it! Ugh! I'll try to keep checking in, I'm still doing a LOT of sleeping but I'm more "awake" today than I was yesterday so I assume that will also get better with time. I'm glad I have you guys around, it definitely helps!

Glad your surgery went well and you are Baaack! Hopefully you will be able to drink more and get in your protein shakes, without a great effort, with each passing day. Yes, like Chrisw said, you should aim at getting some quality sleep and rest for the next several days.

The hunger WILL come back so make sure you take advantage of it as long as you can. I used Premier Protein shakes. They taste pretty good and have a lot of protein in them. I also set a timer to remind me to eat and drink to make sure I was getting my water in. It helps alot.

Good to hear from you Katie. So glad everything went well. I agree with Wifey, listen to your doctors. Don't push yourself to hard, listen to your body.

Sleeping well and not even waking up for pain pills so super excited about that! I don't sleep well normally so sleeping a full 8 hours or more at a time is WONDERFUL! Hunger will come back, yes but like you said @Jgreen...I am TAKING ADVANTAGE! It's nice to eat in a more normal way too...no hunger pains aside. I am eating or drinking all the time but I am not starving anymore...I am still sometimes eating when I'm not hungry but that's been because I haven't eaten enough...which is amazing to me. I am a little weirded out by it, but thankful. So now I'm just eating and drinking with my minimum goals in mind and then letting myself just drink some water now and again. It's very nice.
