heyitsbeth's Journal, 17 April 2018

So today I decided to be an idiot and not stretch/warm up before getting on the tread. But the real irony is as I was getting on the treadmill, I noticed a pain on the side of my leg above my ankle...like a muscle --before I even started. I ignored it. And started my usual 3 mph on the 3 incline. The pain was getting worse. After a good while I went to use the bathroom came back to start again for 20 minutes or so. And the pain was worse than before so I decreased the pace by a half mile and then incline for 1. Still hurt. While I was at work today it seemed aggravated too. Tomorrow will be a rest day. Hopefully it will be sorted by Thursday. If not, maybe the cycling some will be a bit easier on it. For all I know my body may be screaming at me to switch it up from the treadmill. Yesterday and today I have been feeling a headcold coming on. Ill be taking some more supplements tonight. This weather has got to let up! More snow predicted this weekend. I miss being outside.

My trainer always says If it hurts then stop! Hope you feel better soon.

Really? Always feel like I am making excuses to stop if that happens. So I find myself wanting to push on anyways. People talk about "feeling the burn" certainly felt different than the usual burn. Thank you!!

Sharp pain is a REASON to stop, not an excuse. My trainer is really good - he's like "what is that look on your face, did that hurt" and if I try to shrug it off he's like "no, no, I won't have a job if you push it and then you can't work out!" - he only gets paid if I show up to work with him. Good luck with resting. Feeling the burn is definitely not painful just hard. And the old saying "no pain no gain" doesn't apply anymore at my gym, with all the monitors available now, they can measure how hard you are working without exhaustion

Makes sense. Thank you for sharing that! Yeah I actually started holding on to the bars (the ones used for heartrate) for that last stretch and my gait was a bit weird. I'll keep this in mind should that ever happen again.
