How do people feel when they eat 1200 or less (some well below 1000) calories per day? Are they able to do it because they drink beverages with electrolytes? I'm not trying to eat less than I do, I am just so curious because I don't believe that I could. I basically drink only water every day and would not know if some liquids would give me energy or not make me feel faint.

Hi Charlotte— I don’t participate in FS because I am particularly trying to loose weight. I like seeing how other people handle their wt. issues and learning new things. I do a tremendous amount of research and I like to see how it applies to the real world. My calorie intake is about 1200 calories a day, but just as a result of how I normally eat. I do portion control, love fruits and vegetables and pizza and cake and home made ice cream. But, I can eat one slice of pizza and a 7 oz. coke and be content. I can have 1-2 cookies and that’s it. I will measure out 1/2 cup of ice cream and 2 tablespoons of choc syrup and that is it. No second helpings. I DO NOT EAT FAST FOOD PERIOD. the only exception would be if I were traveling and that was all there was. along that same vein, if I want a cookie I will eat it— no guilt, no remorse, it’s just a cookie. I do not keep those kind of things in the house as a rule. I make cakes and cookies and pies— but I put all my normal sized baking stuff in the garage and bought things like six inch pie pans and 4-6 inch cake pans. Enough for my boyfriend and I to have a piece two days in a row or he will take the xtra to work. But my big thing is that I cannot stand to feel “stuffed”. Can not tolerate that feeling. Hope I did not ramble on too much

Thank you again everyone! Kenna, we do get to learn and as long as we support and respect one another I believe we have the right to be here. Adamevegod, I don't eat processed food nor do I eat daily extra sugar. I can wait weeks and maybe months for a craving since it is not part of my diet. I do have a problem however and if something sweet is in my house that I love to eat it will be gone, I will have as much as I can until it's gone. Forget portion control! Since I know this and the fact that if I eat something sweet in the morning I will crave it all day, I make sure that I don't have it in the house. It could be the fact that I eat too much fruit and this is why I feel faint when I don't eat enough, the sugar effect. As I said I would not be able to go very low in calories and never have. For those who can, I hope that it works very well and that they succeed. Rosio, your pictures are quite an inspiration and you have done very well. I don't want to start a discussion about CICO but we have to admit that real doctors can't even agree on the subject. I have watched endless videos and read many articles from the doctors. It doesn't make me an authority on the subject but let's say I have a more open mind then I once did.

You are so right Charlotte— the literature out there supports just about any weight loss program that any one wants to consider. Just when you think there is a definitive answer, some new thing comes out. That is why I don’t exclude any food group and practice moderation.

Charlotte— people who eat very low calorie and do not eat regularly throughout the day will often experience episodes of symptoms of hypoglycemia— dizzy, faint feeling maybe even get sweaty and some people do actually faint. Then when you eat fruit or candy to support your blood sugar, you feel ok for a short while because your blood sugar has spiked. if you do not support that post hypoglycemic sugar loading with some fat and protein, you will bottom out again because the sugar does not last that long.

Thank you Kenna. I originally thought that the answers would reaffirm my belief that I was low on electrolytes but now I am also thinking that it is due to the fact that I overeat fruits. Quite interesting!

I guess I wonder why you would want to eat so low calorie. What are your maintenance calories? Fruits can definitely add a lot of calories and sugar but whole fruits should metabolize slow enough to not cause hypoglycemia.

I eat less than 1200 (although I've been told I shouldn't and going to slowly go up) My average day: Breakfast: 1 egg white+1 whole egg, tomato slices, 1/4 avocado Lunch: lettuce, tomato, 3-4oz tuna or chicken, 1 Tbsp dressing Dinner: baked skinless/boneless chicken breast + broccoli, kale, or Brussel sprouts (Maybe a snack in there like 18 almonds, or a granola bar) I average around 900-950 calories a day. I feel like I get plenty of protein. I feel fine. Not starving or weak. Although I have noticed I'm not losing much... 😕

I eat less than 1000. I always add a protein in, and 2 vegetables. Rarely snack. I started out with and autoimmune protocol diet due to autoimmune diagnosis and I have lost 30 lbs. I am now running and I feel fine.
