It occurred to me that probably, and this is just a theory, that one of the biggest factors contributing to the failure of large numbers of people to adhere to a strict calorie model for weight loss is, that they're still obsessing and fixated on food. You brave CICO calorie warriors, flexing it all to squeeze a square peg into the round hole that is your macros, hold that pose for longer than a minute. And on a second note, I joined the Forks Over Knives facebook group. They had one mean looking recipe for a basil au gratin. I would switch out the potatoes with eggplant, if I could be bothered to make it, unfortunately it breaks one of my rules, keep meals simple, it's got to be one grand helluvan occasion for me to spend more time prepping than it does to cook the thing. Whoa, today is, "Good Friday", innit? Happy Resurrection Day to all you religio-philes, but oh, yeah, I went ahead and dropped out of the FOK group after I saw two posts in less than hour bemoaning the ineffectiveness of that diet. Big shock. It's not animal products that are killing people, it's the refined sugar and processed foods that are the culprit So really, the big takeaway (not take-out, there you go obsessing on food. again.) eat less, cut out processed and refined garbage, and stop that food obsessing, your metabolism can handle a little fasting and deprivation.

This is a dose of wisdom we could use daily...Thank you. I too think it is important to keep things simple and unobsessive. Both in recipes and in the attitude towards food and dieting...that would help normalize things big time...but theory is always easy..:-)

There is no doubt that we should get rid of anything with empty calories, junk food. I watched a video where they spoke about vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. Now, are the conclusions correct? I don't know. The person presenting was a vegan and said that regardless vegans did not live longer than meat eaters. I would have thought that he would have promoted the vegan lifestyle. According to him, to have a proper ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 was more important. I found this very interesting just the same. B12 was also very important.

Agreed! The LCHF woe doesn't take much willpower once you get fat-adapted. More of an issue to make sure you eat ENOUGH! :)

Less cooking is less of a mess.

Exactly! The same reason why I prefer stuff already cooked, heatable n’ eatable! Like oatmeal or cereal. Most “cooking” I do is warming up pulled pork lol. works for me 😁

I saw Forks Over Knives many years ago. I think there are some useful points in there about nutrition and sustainability for an overpopulated earth 🌏 FOK did strike me as a good alternative to traditional (modern) chemotherapy options, which are very harmful. Gerson Therapy seems the only 80-years documented 30% efficacy treatment for near death 💀 cancers. FOK did not strike me as a weight loss program. I went vegetarian for most of last year. It was good, felt like I was cleaning up my liver. But, it had no discernible positive effect on any of my labs or weight. Not negative either. I also tried, and continue intermittent fasting, 16/8. And total LT fasting, 3-7 days. I’m not sick or sickly, excepting this pre-diabetic state and fatty liver. I do well on focused ketogenic or LC,LP,HF, 1600 or less calories with hyper attention to Magnesium, Potassium, Sodium balance. Circadian rhythm sleep 😴 down by 10p, and much water, and daily exercise. Also eliminating idiots from my routine helps! Decent FS folks also help me!

I don't take issue with Forks Over Knives, except the angry vegan aspect of it where meat is murder and all that. And while they don't explicitly get into the militant vegan aspect of it in the film, it plays a big part in the associated lifestyle.

Phil, I wish there was a button for me to like your comments. I guess a "where have you been, I miss your commentary" will have to suffice!

Yes, Phil, I must have blocked out the angry 😤 beavers on FOK. I tend to ignore irrelevant noise.
I do feel badly for those that get genuinely emotional over killing critters for food. They just hurt over it. I now eat meat 🥩 and sometimes wonder what kind of life it had. I had a Hindu friend once and asked if she had to pray and apologize for driving her car 🚗 during buggy 🐛 days. We laughed all day over that. But she did pull a thought out of me for my large footprint on this planet. I keep the bird 🐦 feeders full in the winter and buy raw dairy 🥛 and local greens or grow my own, as organically as I can. I started to get my pallets ready for greenhouse and garden today. The sun was gorgeous. I even see tiny leaves 🍁 growing on my new baby red maple trees. I hope this sullen winter ❄️ is over!

I emphasize whole foods rather than simple, because I enjoy cooking. Agree with "no substitutes" except I miss ice cream - so now I make sugar-free keto recipes.

I like to cook, too, and do a lot of it for my family. For me, I focus on things I can be done prepping in ten minutes or less.
