Very low carbs, lunch, keeping up with de keto diet/life.

what does carbs do?

I just started the keto life style about a week ago. carrots where in the do not touch list as they have a higher carb count. "if it's a veggie from the ground don't touch it" but burgers is something I have like every day now for lunch or dinner

I don't have a lot of time for cooking, but I'm finding out that those Morningstar original and prime grillers are low carb and pretty tasty. Good for breakfast!

Ok how do you do the keto diet

Keto is low carb, moderate protein, high fat. A start is to plan for fat = protein + net carbs. The idea is to switch to fat burning instead of glucose. I limit my net carbs to 20 g per day because I am working to lose weight. There are lots of keto folks on FS who can give more info.

I do the same. No more than 20 carbs a day, close to zero to sugar I can get. 110 gms of fat and 81 gms of protein (1395 calories allowed a day)

Wow .... I couldn't do 20 carbs a day - I love it too much - if it wasn't for bread I probably wouldn't eat much at all!!

well... Yes I knew that the carrots are on the list of what should not be on a keto diet hehe but I hardly ate 100 grams so they were only a few grams of carbs. I AM on day number 4 of keto and feeling ok, every day gets easer than the day befoure 😁💪

You learn as you go and you get better at eating more keto-friendly as you go. It's a journey and, at least for me, it was hard giving up so much of the carb-food all at once! And carrots really aren't that bad so long as you're not eating too much (enough to trigger an insulin response). It never hurts to drown them in something high fat like butter or coconut oil. :) Wishing you all the luck with keto; it's a life changer!!

@Gz9gjg, F/P/C at 70/20/5 is percentage of total daily calories... i.e. that small "Calorie Breakdown" pie chart at the bottom of your food diary page. Mine today was as 77%(fat)/17%(protein)/6%(carb), pretty typical of keto.
