I've been following a ketogenic way of living since August 2017. Keto is a low-carb, high-fat, moderate protein way of eating. On average, I eat about 100 grams of fat, 50 grams of protein, and 20 grams of carbs a day.

For me, keto is not a diet I'm on to meet goals, but is a complete way of life. There was definitely a learning curve to get to where I am now, but the benefits of giving up carbs have been enormous. I can't imagine ever going back to feeling as awful as I did when I was eating high-carb. Keto has been life changing for me.

I started out with low-carb (Atkins) in May of 2017, lost about 7 lbs then hit a plateau for two months. At first, I was a bit scared of and very-much-so confused about keto, but I decided to give it a try. The benefits increased in direct relationship to my reduction in carbs. The less carbs I ate, the better I felt.

Some of the benefits I've experienced since going low-carb/keto:
-more mental clarity/no more brain fog
-stable energy levels throughout the day/no more 3 o'clock energy dips
-more stable mood
-a lot less headaches (18 headaches in 04/2017; 3 headaches in 09/2017)
-improved sleep/easier to fall asleep
-enjoy eating and cooking again/making new recipes

If you're interested in learning more, I highly recommended reading more about the subject; there is so much to know! Gary Taubes' book Why We Get Fat isn't specifically about keto, but is an eye-opening expose/history of nutrition "science" in the United States currently. Backed by meticulously-cited research, it is the story behind how we Americans came to believe that fat is evil and grains are healthy. Even without opening this book, you can see evidence for the failure of these dietary recommendations in the skyrocketing rates of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease seen today.

Primal Fat Burner by Nora Gedgaudas is a book specifically about the ketogenic diet and is a highly informative introduction to the subject.
