Ok my fellow followers, I am in size 20 jeans right now. I have several pair of 16's that fit everywhere but the stomach. I was wondering if there are any exercises that can help reduce belly fat so that I can reach my goal of moving down to the 16's for a while till I can go to 14's? Thank you in advance.

I THINK MENM ARE DIFFERENT IN THAT WE GET OUR FAT DEPOSITS IN OUR FACE AND BELLY SO UPON AEROBIC BURNOFF THAT GOES FIRST..WOMEN SEEM TO GET IT IN THEIR BUTT AND THEIGHS SO MAYBE MUCH MORE AEROBIC IS NEEDED TO GET THE BELLY FAT OFF FOR U... I JUST WALK/RUN MORE....

i saw a good youtube videp thst addresses this. There isnt one magical ab exercise to reduce belly fat. However the video did say cardiovascular exercises (running biking swimming) aerobics will begin to slim you down.

Thank you both so much. I sure will. I will start my running/walking again. Maybe a few more exercises with it. That helps more than you know. :)

Do any HIIT workouts! They are designed to burn the fat. But just know focusing on one body part usually doesn't work. Focus on the whole body! You will definitely see changes soon then!

ED BO, just wanted to point out that women who are pre-menopausal tend to hold more weight in those areas than those women who are post-menopausal. The older group tend to develop more fat around the middle. This is due to a change in estrogen levels, and not due to over-eating. (The fat cells in our abdominal region grow 6x larger at this time of life without an increase in calories. Balancing our hormones is not only a good way to keep us "sane" (lol!) but it's also a great way to stay trim and young looking! Exercise- whether cardio or strength training- helps to regulate hormones, so to thin the belly fat, feel the burn!

I feel ya, Emily. I too, wish there was a magical exercise that targeted "specific" sections of fat on this body. But, alas as the others have stated, there's exercises that will target "muscle development" but there's no rhyme or reason as to what fat supplies the body chooses to pull from while it's losing. This is in part why "body re-composition" is a perfect term for those who strength train or lift weights. Half the time I feel like a piece of play-do while I'm developing something I can't even see, because it's hidden under layers of fat. It's there, I can feel it for certain but I can't see what's being created until I work through this body's fat stores. And, that part takes patience, and being mindful of nutrition. We'll get there, we just have to keep pluggin' away ;-)

I still don't 'get' women's sizing...you say '20' and I picture a 20" waist (that would be wasp-like)...guess it comes with not being a girl! and not having to go shopping for daughters, girl friends, spouse, etc...

That you all for the recommendations. I love how I can come and get straight forward answers. This means a great deal to me and will begin on walking more and maybe slight jogging as well. I'm a terrible runner lol

Perhaps look up High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and develop a plan - walking then sprinting for 30 seconds and then walking again and then sprinting alternately will help burn fat.

Cardio to burn off all the fat, and not weight lifting. Concentrate on eating only 1200 cals/day and doing (any) cardio 3-6 days/week. Lift your own body weight for now with pushups and planks, squats, and crunches. When you get down to about 22-23% body fat, your muscles will emerge like magic -- the pretty, sinewy kind, not the thug kind. It is waaaayyyy faster to lose a ton of weight with cardio activities than with heavy weights. My stomach flattened out at 150 lbs, and the 6 pack appears at 135-140 with a daily dose of 100 crunches. My friends all have beautiful arms without even flexing by keeping their weight appropriate for their frame/height by jogging coupled with Pilates and yoga. If you want big guns, lose the weight first and then pump the iron -- you'll have better control over your bicep size since you'll be able to see the changes clearly because they won't be hiding under a thick layer of fat.

Poppycom what is IF?
18 Jun 17 by member: emilygu
@emilygu IF is from Dr. Jason Fung's books, The Obesity Code, and the Complete Book of Fasting and it is an abbreviation for intermittent fasting, ie. Fasting in short bursts of time like 18 hours then eat normally for 6 not gorge or fast for 20 eat for for 4 so people use the shorthand IF 20/4 or 18/6 , etc or talk about multi day fasts. Medical science is actually rediscovering how healthy it is for the body to actually NOT eat! LOL and to not be gorging all the time! 🤷🏻‍♀️Surprise! Strange things our grandparents knew.🤦🏻‍♀️

I know I have insulin resistance and this was diagnosed 12 years ago... Intermittent fasting allows your body to stop producing as much insulin, this means o don't store as much fat around my waist/belly bulge any more 😁

Intermittent Fasting (I.F.) is the counter trend to the Eat 6 Small Meals Every 2.5 Hours. People who eat/graze all day long can have a difficult time remembering to record everything, and thus go over their daily caloric allowance, preventing them from losing more weight. By fasting, you can just have 1-2 meals totaling your daily allowance, or less (better). The idea is to eat LESS, not gorge on a 2000 calorie meal at the end of your "fast." And some dieters actually drink their calories all day, so they're not actually fasting, but rather chewing one meal and drinking the others (and probably still exceeding their daily caloric allowance). Personally, I only eat dinner (which is under 600 calories) and just drink water, black coffee and tea all day. I've lost 12 pounds in 7 weeks so far.

Thank you for explaining. I will have to try that.

The other book you might want to read is, " The Magnesium Miracle," by Dr. Carolyn Dean. I'm finding out that many things with my health are exacerbated by low magnesium that my meds were lowering even further that doctor's weren't having me replenish. Now that I am, things like the abdominal migraines have backed off, and I expect it to help with the insulin resistance too when I get the levels correct.

Look Good Naked: Strength training helps you lose weight (and body fat) in a few different ways. First, it helps you retain the muscle you have while eating a calorie deficit and losing weight. Second, strength training has a much greater level of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption than aerobic exercise. What does this mean? When you finish a workout, your body needs to do a lot of work to replenish itself in order to bring itself back to a normal state (the way it was before you worked out). This takes a lot of energy, and some studies have shown that it can boost your metabolism for up to 38 hours after you finish your workout. Not only that, but strength training can help increase your metabolism by speeding up your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). This is because it takes your body more calories to maintain muscle than it does to maintain fat. Estimates are that for every 1 lb of muscle you gain, your RMR goes up 30-50 calories!
