I know...I've been MIA for a while. While I haven't gone totally off the rails, I did decide to take a break from monitoring, recording, journaling and all of it. Yep, I gained a little, but nothing excessive. My reset date is tomorrow, and I'm up for it.
I decided to start making videos for my YouTube channel again, with some changes in lighting, setup, and content. Some worked, some didn't. But, when I went to edit the raw footage, I discovered, to my horror, that Microsoft no longer supports MovieMaker, the editing software I was using. Not only that, but in the latest update, it actually removed the app from my computer! WTH??????
I found a 'free' program that is similar enough, and after spending 2 hours shooting the new video, I edited it with Filmora. A little learning curve, but I got it done in under 2 hours. Uploaded it to my channel, and when I reviewed it, it had a huge, stinkin' watermark across the middle of the screen! When I went back to the program, there was a pop-up saying, "You want us to remove the watermark from your video? Pay $49.95 for a 1 year license, or $79.95 for a lifetime license." GRRRRRRRRRR!
Long story short, after much searching, I found a shareware editor that's very good, but is VERY different, and the learning curve is WAY steeper. I've spent 2 days watching tutorials, and trying things with various clips, and I think I'll like it when I get a handle on it. But the footage I shot is pretty much a throw-away, because my new 'studio' is my dining room, and my neighbors' dogs can see me through the windows when I open the blinds for lighting....and they barked constantly throughout the filming. The soundtrack is, "woof, woof, bark, whirl, chop, bark, woof". *sigh* I'm going to have to remake the recipe video in my old studio (kitchen).
The good news is, I found a great tutorial on shooting overhead closeups that cost no money!
Oh, Interwebz....I love/hate you.
Restart deadline: tomorrow! Here we go!
