Hmmmmm....the carb train is still whisking me along in spite of my decision to go back to strict keto. I really, REALLY wanted sushi today, so I went and got some.
The up-side: It was after a 30 hour fast. The down-side: it was 100+ grams of carbs. But it was exactly what I wanted, and it made me very happy. Who knew miso soup was so carby??? Back on beast mode with a 23:1 fast. *Theoretically*, that should keep me in a losing state. Experience tells me that even with eating once a day, what I eat is more telling than how much I eat. Tomorrow's weigh in will tell me.
I dunno..maybe it's the post-holiday letdown, maybe it's the fact that people are telling me how 'skinny' I've gotten, maybe I've been feeling deprived, maybe it's the loose wrinkled skin I'm seeing all over my body, maybe it's my hair falling out, or maybe it's a combination of all of the above. But I just don't have the motivation I once had.
I want to enjoy food again. I want to have sensory indulgence. I have very few sensual things in my life, and flavor and texture were the things that made me feel alive.
Yeah, wheat makes me sick and achy. I know that. And sugar was banned almost 30 years ago because of a genetic disposition to diabetes. I can live with that.
So, I'm going to change up the WOE for a while, maybe try the 52 Cowboy's strategy, and keep on keepin' on.
I'll keep you posted, and my plan is to stay somewhere in the neighborhood of where I am today, in the 160's. Gotta live LIFE, though!
I hope this didn't bring my buddies down, but it is what it is.
~Kes

Yes, I think you have a point here Kes. Its probably a number of things as you have mentioned. Motivation will not be a significant factor as it once was , because you have less to lose now. No you have not brought us down, because its how you feel and we are here to support. Yes you gotta live your life and that is a great motto. Enjoy your life today... it will be a good day no matter what the weather is outside x

Hi Kes, sorry you are struggling. Don't we all? I have been going easy on myself lately, because food restrictions set me up for binging or I get really depressed. Food is to be enjoyed. Life is to be enjoyed. It is a delicate balance. We want to be healthy and weigh less and eat what we want too!!! Not easy, I know. Relax, the answers will come to you. Have a great day!

"bring us down"? Heck NO! These kinds of posts are as important (or even more so) to me. While I certainly don't like to see anyone struggle, it helps to know there ARE others out there feeling JUST LIKE ME! I am not alone...

AH32 -- I appreciate your perspective, but I have learned over the past 6 years (and so have the nutritionists and scientists) that a strict calories in-calories out approach does not in fact work for everyone. In particular menopausal and post-menopausal women struggle as their hormones change and they become slightly-to-seriously insulin resistant. While I don't do the extremely low-carb plan many swear by, I absolutely believe that eating low-glycemic has made all the difference for me now, and I have real confidence that so long as I stay on this plan, not only will I gradually lose all the weight I need to take off, but I will keep it off. Good luck to you. On this site, everyone routs for everyone else, no matter how they approach weight loss. So more power to you... but do open your mind (and perhaps do some reading on current science) to the notion that simple calorie counting does not work for everyone: What we eat may be as important as how much.

You gotta check out this new book The Secret Life of Fat by Sylvia Tara. It's really good. Goes thru the various things that impact fat gain and loss. Really interesting.

Hermiones Mom- I have done a lot of research and reading and studies- don't assume that because you don't agree or read different literature that I am the wrong one our outdated. As I said to each his own. Science is always as controversial as religion as one theory always tries to debunk the next. I am open to other views and it is very close minded of someone to assume because someone expresses a different opinion or concern for the path someone chooses that they are closed minded. I think it is as important to show encouragement as well as concern if every post you read is how the person does not feel good. Would you give a drug addict encouragement all the way to grave just because it is what they decide do. You can have genuine love and concern for a perfect stranger when you have love for all human kind. Offering information that someone can take and go look up and research for themselves is not putting them or their methods down at her just showing, hey I'm listening and here is something to look into incase you decide this not the road for you. I am really surprised at the negative read that others got from my post.

AH32, you're repeating the same wrong information that gets people fat and keep them that way, that's why you got negative feedback. Have you bothered to look at how successful Kes has been following her program? Have you had as much success following yours?

I appreciate all input and support! I tend to live my the philosophy that, "just because I'm right, it doesn't mean you're wrong." Each of us is different, and there is no plan that fits everyone. But I do know that weight loss isn't as simple as a math problem. If it were, I would be a stick, since I'm almost consistently under 1000 Kcal/day, which according to CICO theory, is a starvation diet. I also know that when I eat certain foods, I can see my weight bounce up as much as 7 lbs over the next few days, even under the very low calorie restriction. Case in point: I had pork mei fun 3 days ago, and the scales showed a 4 lb gain 2 days later. AH32, I thank you for your input, and wish you the very best doing what works for you. And for my fellow low carb warriors, thank you for your steadfast support! I'm still experimenting, and still fine-tuning this plan to make it sustainable and healthy.

Thanks, Phil. Because for years I did calorie counting and low fat, and I would lose the same 50 pounds over and over again. Plus my FBS was never where I wanted it to be. When, after a 18-month disability from two serious injuries, my weight hit 234 and my FBS hit 125 (I know - not horrible but in a family where there have been two deaths from Type 2 related problems I wanted to nip this in the bud), I started reading up on dieting to lower blood sugar. I began to learn about low-glycemic eating and adding plenty of "good" fats into my diet. I began losing weight at a slow steady pace and keeping it off. More recently, as a result of an infection, I developed IBS and had to give up wheat, among other things, an low and behold, keeping the weight off suddenly got easier. Bottom line, I've lost nearly 80 pounds, lowered my cholesterol significantly without medication, and dropped my FBS to 88. Nothing will ever convince me that it's a calories-in-calories-out world. Yes, if you eat more calories than you use, you will likely gain weight. But that is just not the whole story. What you eat is equally important.

Calorie surplus/calorie deficit is a non-issue if the macros are right.
