Day 1 of the New Moon 5-day fast is in the bag. I got a little hungry around 4 PM, and was feeling crampy in my feet, so I added some MIO Electrolyte to a bottle of water, and chugged it. It helped a lot!
I made some bone broth from cow feet bones (Don't be going all, "EWWW" on me here!). It is rich in collagen, elastin, trace minerals, and amino acids. A small cup of that stuff is sustaining and satisfying. And if there's any left after this fast, will make an incredible aspic. After I chilled it and skimmed the fat, it is the most solid jelly I've ever seen!
I had a new client at work today who has such severe tremors in her head that she's had a procedure where they implanted electrodes in her brain which are attached to a battery under her collarbone by thick (1/8") cables that run down the side of her neck, under the skin. Even with that, her head tilts uncontrollably to the right, and shakes pretty severely. It was pretty challenging to do highlights on her, but once I got a sense of the rhythm of her tremors, I was actually able to work with them, and use them to my advantage.
The best part, though, was being able to share with her the new research that's being done in the area of therapeutic nutritional ketosis for neurological disorders. I wrote it down, and told her to ask her neuro doc about it. If he hasn't heard of it, I'm hoping it spurs him to research it. But I told her that if he was resistant to it, I would share the details with her, and hopefully help. She was very open to it.
It's been a very good day, in spite of heat index of 114F.

@NewNormal, I've made dehydrated broth! I have a dehydrator, and use it to preserve all kinds of stuff. Making the portable broth is a 3 day process, but, man! Is it good!

where did you get the cow feet? I've never seen it for sale. My husband lived in Peru for a while -Peace Corp- and the local cafe started every meal with 'chicken foot' soup with a chicken foot to stir it and then they'd suck the fat off. Good soup, but culturally adventurous for No Americans!

Yah, ive got pork rack o ribs broth finishing off right now. I like to buy the full untrimmed rack that comes with the back connective parts. Mmm good!

@Erika, I got them at the International Supermarket. "Caldo de patas" (foot broth) is a staple in many Latin American cuisines. We Americans throw away the most nutritious parts of the animals we eat. I remember a lecture I watched where the speaker said that bushmen ate the organs, and threw the lean meat to their dogs. LOL

Mmm mmm good! 5 day total fast? I need to catch up. Can you share the info on neuro you were talking about. I have lesions in my pons and have mild facial spans but the doctors just want to push drugs. I'm very interested.

So, maybe a market in the Latino neighborhood? Good thought.

@Erika, possibly.....or a *real* butcher. If they don't have it, they might be able to get it in for you.
