How Calories From Starches And Sugar Are Different

In light of the recent debate on one of my journal entries, I did a little looking around. I found plenty of evidence for my point of view, but this is one of the most entertaining. It's a little long, but it is worth the watch.
It backs up my statement from that post: SUGAR IS POISON!

Sugar is only a poison if it causes you to overeat and become obese. I eat a lot of sugar daily and maintain healthy health markers. Sugar is just another carb, and if you can eat it while maintaining a healthy calorie intake, you'll be perfectly fine. But keep spreading this fear mongering nonsense, whatever fits your agenda. Where is the science?

I lost a load of weight, eating Carbs (sugar included), but I was lethargic and hungry most of the time. When I swapped some of the Carb calories for Fat calories I continued to lose weight, but was active and no longer hungry. I do not do LCHF but Reduced C Increased F. I try to keep my ratios around that which was recorded at the early part of the 20th Century. Around 30% Carbs in my diet. I do not bother whether they are refined Carbs or not, as long as I can stick to around 30%.

I watched the whole thing. I was struck how he ate the same calorie wise before and during the 60 day experiment, but gained weight when he replaced fat calories with 41 teaspoons of sugar. He ate all foods recommended for a heart healthy diet, and no candy or soda, and developed a fatty liver. Crazy.

One scientific fact about sugar is that it steals vitamin b1 from your body in order for your body to metabolize it. It has no nutrients to combat this. Interestingly, one of the results of a b1 deficiency is "trouble digesting carbohydrates." Your body needs it to form ATP. Severe deficiency results in Beriberi.

@Lady, It IS crazy! Fatty liver, mood swings, gained 3 inches around the waist, and never felt satisfied.

Interesting bit of data, Trackin! Thank you.

I heard that never felt satisfied part. If he weren't trying to stay UNDER the sugar limit, he would have needed to eat MORE. What really stuck with me was his statement that he had adapted to his new normal, and was functioning fairly well. Don't we all? We function just fine until we don't. Fatty liver, diabetes, stroke, heart attack.
