Debbie Cousins's Journal, 26 October 2022

Well, I walked in at home from the psychiatrists office, and what was there waiting on my kitchen counter? No, it's not good. It was two slices of Franklin Nut Cake (which I made last week and sent to NC with my mother-in-law on vacation). I am powerless. 1/16 of the recipe is 630 calories. I had HALF of one slice for 315 calories. But, I had already eaten all my snacks for the day, so it got added to my total calories making them 1,655 for today. The good news is, with my low Monday and Tuesday totals, the average for the three days is 1,442 (still between the 1,350 and 1,450 I was shooting for this week). I'm going to see if my husband can eat the remaining 1-1/2 slices of the cake tonight, so I won't have to work in another half slice tomorrow. Yes, I said, "have to." If it's here, I cannot stop myself from eating it!

The other bad news is that, on that counter, there also was left a small Ziploc bag of chocolate covered peanuts AND a half can of peanut squares! Oh drat! I forgot to add in the 2 chocolate-covered peanuts I ate - another 32 calories.

As long as I am able to stay in the 1,350 to 1,450 range for the rest of the week, I should be able to meet my goal.

Here's a picture of the offending cake. Remember, this is from a cake that was cut into 16 pieces, and then I only had one HALF of that. The plate it's on is a salad plate. The piece is 1-1/2" tall, 3" wide and 3/4" thick. TINY!!!

My husband got home from going out to lunch with some ladies from our church, and he was too full to eat the cake. He went to take a nap, and I made him take the cake with him so I couldn't get to it. He will eat the 1-1/2 slices tonight after I go to bed.

You did well showing restraint with the cake. Good for you!! But I wonder....is your husband at a healthy weight? Encouraging him to eat 900+ calories in cake so you won't, may not be the best choice either 😒 Either freeze it (if you can resist) or throw it out.
