Debbie Cousins's Journal, 07 August 2021

Weight up over a half pound after another bread binge yesterday. It's not even 6am now and I've already had one slice and am wanting another one - REALLY wanting another one!

Tried a slice of chocolate cream pie yesterday. My husband had asked me to order it. It was just ok, so I only ate 1/3 of the slice and then gave the rest to him. At the pool, I ate 2/3 of a Lunchable WITHOUT the cookies, a string cheese and an ounce of BelGioioso mozzarella pearls.

Cooked cabbage again yesterday and weighed it afterward so I could figure out exactly how much butter I was getting in a serving. In 4-oz of cabbage, I'm getting 2 tsp. of butter. At least I know how to properly record it not.

In case you haven't noticed, I LOVE BUTTER! That's half the draw of the Dave's Killer bread! If you're thinking about buying Dave's Killer 21 Whole Grains and Seeds bread, do NOT get the THIN kind. It is dry, whereas the regular slices are moist and more delicious. If you have trouble with bread cravings, do NOT get the Dave's Killer bread - it will be your undoing!

I didn't get in my water yesterday or the day before, which might also be a contributor to the weight gain - that and the fact that I'm backed up. Gotta get myself back on track!

I eat the Dave's thin all the time and don't find it dry... but I prefer heated, non-toasted bread.

Debbie, some of us do better just not starting on bread or foods we love. I posted about my gain today being due to the "just this once" thinking and action I took Thursday and which has resulted in weight gains since. I hope I have FINALLY learned not to give into that kind of thinking and action. I was under 3# from my next goal. Now I will work re loose the same weight to get to goal. Certain foods can be safely eliminated from our food intake. We are gonna be strong and make the best choices today. Can you do more veggies with more butter and not do bread if the butter is the draw. You can also add it to meats after cooking

I love bread, pasta and cheese and of course, butter, and oh, salty potato chips!! So I understand your dilemma! For me, I have to stay clear of those items and use them as special treats…measured! So hard to do! You have to decide what’s best and what works for you. You know your triggers. Maybe take those items out of the equation for a week or two to see what happens. Rework your menu without trigger items. Like I said, and you know, it’s hard! But, you are worth it! And, you can do it. One small step at a time! You got this!

Debbie, I ask this with love, not criticism. Have you thought about maybe joining a support group like OA? I know you lean on your faith to diet, but if you look at your last few weeks of journaling, you might want to look at your relationship with food as well. And you're welcome to tell me to mind my own business. Just concerned.

@catwmncat, maybe it was just the loaf of thin I got, but there is definitely a difference than the "not thin" loaf. The bigger slices DO require me to use more butter (20g, compared to 16g with the thin).

I completely relate to feeling backed up - I hate it!! I'm taking 7 metamucil tablets 3 times a day - which is the maximum dose recommended for controlling cholesterol. I figure I may as well kill two birds with one stone. I find staying away from carbs, sugar and snacking works for me. The less time I spend in the kitchen the better. I'm having one slice of multigrain toast a day with almond butter. That way I don't feel completely deprived. Sometimes though it doesn't matter what you do, and you have to just push on and trust the process. As mentioned before, you are worth it and you can do this.
