Debbie Cousins's Journal, 06 July 2021

I feel like I did a really good job, eating-wise, today. Filled up on cabbage and watermelon. I made some 5-cup salad for my husband and only ate ONE BITE (which I didn't know how to record, so I'm confessing here, LOL).

Tomorrow will start a challenging period. My daughter informed me tonight that she was in the middle of making me a homemade German Chocolate Cake with HOMEMADE Coconut-Pecan Frosting! That's my absolute favorite cake, and she was out of state on my birthday, then their AC was broken and it was 84 degrees in the house. SO, this is my "birthday cake." (Birthday was 6/20). In the past, when there is a whole cake with my name on it, I would eat three pieces a day until it was gone (sharing some of it, but eating most).

I'm determining that I will allow myself to have ONE nice piece tomorrow. Going to see if I can clean out enough room in my small freezer to fit a whole cake container (it will be challenging!) I'll probably allow myself one slice a day for a couple of days and then relinquish the rest to the freezer for special (INfrequent) occasions.

Pleased that I was able to forego the wanna-be Sweet Potato Casserole yesterday and that I was able to stay out of the 5-Cup Salad today. (It has a can of drained Pineapple Tidbits, can of drained Mandarin Oranges, jar of drained Maraschino Cherries, cup of flaked coconut, cup of pecans, a cup of sour cream and about 2-3 cups of mini marshmallows in it.) I know that it doesn't add up to five cups anymore, but that's the way my husband likes it, and since it is for HIM, that's the way it got made. Maybe I can get the grandkids to eat a little of it tomorrow when they are here. Not sure if they like German Chocolate Cake.

Was able to bring calories DOWN from a little over 2,000 yesterday to under 1,600 today. Not sure how things will do on the scale in the morning - no BM's today, like I had yesterday, so MIGHT be looking at a gain in the morning, even though my behavior and choices were better than yesterday's.

Had Physical Therapy for exercise today. Only two more weeks and two days until we go to Great Wolf Lodge with the grandkids. If I make it up the 6 stories of stairs ONCE, it might be the best I can do. I think the little one is going to be afraid of the big slides, but the 10-year old will be all about them and will want someone to go on them with her. One is 6 stories high and another one is 4 stories high. Maybe between my husband and myself, we'll be able to keep the kids having fun! It was over two months away when I first planned it, and now it's almost HERE! Better get back to making my packing lists!

The kids will be here for the pool tomorrow. I'll pick them up at 10am and feed them breakfast as soon as they get here. We'll go out to the pool around 11, and they're saying they want us to order pizza for lunch around 1pm to be delivered to our picnic table out by the pool. I think they'll really enjoy that! Usually, I pack them Lunchables, chips, Little Bites snack cakes, cheese sticks, and meat sticks to eat at the pool. So pizza will be a welcome change for them. I don't know if I will have a piece or not. I guess I'll have to see how I'm doing on the rest of the day before I decide if I can fit it in with my plans to continue to lose weight.

Well, bedtime! Gotta get up early to clean up all the dishes from today before I go to get the kids. They both want bacon for breakfast (at least 6 slices each) - one of them wants 2 fried (runny) eggs, and the other want's two "Cheesy Eggs" (Scrambled). I can't cook in a messy kitchen, so I'll have to tackle that around 5 or 6 am. Also behind on a Bible Study that I do by phone with my best friend twice a week. Well, not truly BEHIND, but I haven't done anything toward preparing for Thursday's lesson yet. Guess I'll need to fit that in early, as well. UGH. I better hurry up and get to sleep so I can wake up and get busy!

Enjoy the vacation and I know you'll make it up at least once and that's a great accomplishment in physical therapy. Plus you have two weeks to walk in your pool and help with your healing and strengthening process. God is with you and so are my prayers for your healing. You got this and it was you who taught me that no BM weight gains are normal and will pass. Love you Sis!

I never known anyone else to admit that they (used to) eat the better portion of an entire cake in a couple days! Birthday cake w/ Buttercream is my all time favorite🎂! Track a nice piece of the cake, enjoy it guilt free and freeze most of the rest! I slice it into approx 1-inch slices and freeze them each individually wrapped in plastic wrap (unwrap before thawing so the icing doesn't all stick to the wrap)... I don't trust myself with cake that is not frozen!!! Sleep well and have fun with the kids tomorrow!

Oh yes, I can't be trusted with a cake, at ALL. lol So I keep out a couple slices for a couple days, then I slice up the rest and slip each slice into those neat little plastic bags that fold over. So convenient! Then I drop all those into a big freezer bag and label it. So handy when peoplle drop by, and it's a nice opportunity to reduce my stash without eating it. lol Hope your vacation is great and thanks for sharing! :)

I had 4 cupcakes left, decided not to let them go to waste and have been eating one each night. I'm really trying to work on moderation. In the past I could have polished off at least 2 of them in one sitting. I think as long as we have a plan and fit it into our day it all works out and keeps me from feeling deprived.

Now is the perfect time to practice moderation. Weigh a thin slice of cake, eat & include in your calorie totals. You can learn to be satisfied with a small portion when it fits in your calorie totals. And yes!! Freeze most of the cake to enjoy for later.
