cocobutt's Journal, 20 May 2021

I've gained over 10 pounds in one year. That's how long I've been away from FS. Mom broke her hip last June and her arm last September, so I was the main caregiver for the rest of the year, so no time for much else. Thankfully, my sister started sharing caregiving duties after her job became a work-from-home gig due to covid. The gym closed and I never could establish an exercise routine without it. I've been eating meals with mom and then eating with my husband and stress-eating candy all the time. So many excuses. I've been out of control and I need to get a grip on things. Today was the first time I'd weighed myself in several months so this was a shock. I shouldn't be too surprised though because I could tell my clothes were getting tighter.

My daughter and her boyfriend broke up a few days ago, so I'll be flying to Cali to offer emotional support soon. I'm nervous about traveling alone nowadays. A by-product of getting older I guess. I've got to figure out a way to talk her into moving back home.

In the scope of things 10 pounds is not bad under your circumstances, but it is great to catch it before it gets out of control. If your daughter has built a life in California with a job, friends, etc. maybe she will do ok just staying put till she has time to evaluate her situation and just sort of let the dust settle before she makes any more huge life changes. If financial survival is an issue that might be another story.

Thank you, Erika, Jo, LAB, lady, Draglist, Charlie & Kenna! It is great to see names both familiar and new and to know that we all have each others' backs here. I may not visit every day but even once a week is better than nothing to keep me accountable. After this lapse, I do believe that a daily weigh-in is helpful. I forgot to do it this morning so I need to get back in the habit.

Welcome back. I know personally the stress of caretaking as I took care of both my parents 3 years ago. I'm happy that you came back to FS. Their are plenty of us who have been coming and going through the past year as well. It's been a tough year for so many. I hope you have a good trip to see your daughter and all goes well. Take care.
