I’m gonna treat myself like a queen today, found out we are getting deployed. But you know what? It’s stateside. I guess I always wanted to see Texas anyways.

Thanks we’re going to rent a house in Killeen Texas as my husband will be stationed at Fort Hood. I am grateful that the army gave him one years notice before deployment so that we can get everything set up for the kids ahead of time. Hopefully we can get back to our life here in Michigan after the one-year deployment, but I guess with his work you just never know. Grateful we get to stay together!

I didn’t realize so many of our friends are living in Texas now! That makes me feel a lot better. I don’t think you could get farther away from upper Michigan then going to Texas. Cozy sweaters and flannel lined jeans probably aren’t a thing 🥺 But I am looking forward to camping year around and hopefully swimming year around as well

The weather will be a big change. Where will you be in Texas? It is a big state. The Dallas area is really beautiful.

Fort Hood in Killeen. I’m told Benton Lake is nearby

A change in both weather and landscape that’s for sure. I was really relieved to learn about Benton Lake because I am 200 feet from Lake Michigan currently and have been for the last 10 years.

Yes the kids are beach babies 6 months out of the year and then the others we ice fish. I am just blown away that Texas has lakes. I’ve learned so much this last week about Texas, and I’ve still got a long ways to go. Do I have to worry about scorpions? Snakes? Spiders? Here we have raccoons and stuff but Texas seems to have some more scary types of vermin.

Are you going to Ft Bliss in El Paso? My niece's husband was stationed there a few years ago. They are at Ft Irwin in Cali now. I have an aunt in Dallas. They do have scorpions. I visited one in the 80's and they seemed to like the sinks. We visited again in 2018 and didn't see any at all. But beware of fire ants. They were all over the place and I stepped on some. They are all over you fast. Thankfully my aunt had ointment that took the sting out. But they left marks on my skin for months. I love the fireflies at night. Had never seen them before.

Oh I love fire flies, I haven’t seen them since I was a child here in Michigan. And that is so funny about the wild hogs LOL my husband is however very excited to hunt pigs in Texas. I’m going to be in Killeen Texas because my husband‘s getting stationed at Fort Hood. It’s had a lot of bad press lately, but seeing as it’s the largest post in the country it’s bound to get a lot of attention. It’s a huge place I guess

I have a pic of the wild hogs from our trip. I'll post on my page for you. Can't recall why my uncle captured them. This is actually when I got bit by those pesky fire ants!
