shiny50's Journal, 21 July 2019

Bad week last week. I have gained almost two pounds because of stress eating. I recently started a new job which is a good thing for me but stressful all the same. Then on Tuesday evening a Ford expedition ran a stop and I honked and swerved but no way I could avoid hitting them.doing 30mph in my Hyundai Sonata. My car was totaled and I was very shook up with some minor bruising and aches and pains. After deal with the other drivers insurane, the rental car company, the collision center while still trying to focus on my new job, I was exhausted by Fri. Two fast food meals and two restaurant meals this weekend was not helpful for my weight loss goals. I am really hoping this week will be a better week.

Sorry to hear about that! So many things to be grateful about. It looks like no one permanently injured? Yeah I will go on a food binge sometimes from stress. For me, that is wayyy better off than other choices I could make. Good luck!

Adef as always you are so right...better eating too much than turning to drinking alcohol which is a whole other beast! Thank you all for the support. I did get x-rays of my chest which is where I was having pain right after the accident, but may have some whiplash. My neck was very sore on both sides yesterday and range of motion was painful. I see the doctor next week and will see about the knees and the neck. Oh my lol.

Shiny50, I know exactly how you feel, having been in *exactly* the same accident that totaled my Toyota Corolla three years ago last April. The accident itself is, unfortunately, just the beginning of the stressful road to recovery. (And I didn't have to deal with work pressures.) Dealing with every nuance is likely to generate feelings of frustration, aggravation, and anger, and lead to -- at the very least -- the urge to comfort yourself with food. [CONTINUED]

Shiny50, be prepared: As you know from experience, your resistance to temptation is extraordinarily low when you're under lots of stress. Some intervention strategies: Try to plan *very* simple meals. Keep on hand some quick, healthy foods that fit your plan and drink lots of water. Trash everything -- in your house or car or work desk drawer -- that is too tempting. Most of all, don't make excuses *or* beat yourself up for your lapses. *Forgive yoursel." You aren't "being bad." You're having a very tough time of things right now. Be well!

It was a bad week and it's over. Don't dwell on it. Just start again. It's hard but you can do it.

So sorry about last week. Your stiff neck sounds like whiplash, you might not be able to wait a week to see your doctor, as this can be very painful. Hope all goes better this week.

I can relate on the accident....I gave a SUV access to make a left hand turn & all of a sudden decided to go right. I was at a complete stop and they ran over my front bumper & side panel!! Fun giving people the right a way.

I’m so glad you are Ok. I used to tell some of my ER accident patients— “Congratulations! Today is your lucky day”. Metal and money can be replaced. Lives can’t. To walk away from an accident is almost a miracle sometimes. I once had a patient whose small Corolla was forced off the road at the top of a bridge, rolled, went over the rail and onto the freeway, landing on the roof. No other accidents occurred and she walked without a scratch. You were truly blessed. A slight deviation in the day’s eats was warranted.

It's tough enough to start a new job, but to have the car wreck on top of that - my sympathies!!!!
