I had an interesting conversation with a gym employee yesterday at my Couch 2 5k class. All my shirts are 3x, cause that's just what I have. But when we ran the 5k, I got a 2x shirt for the run, and it was one of those that kind of clings to you a little rather than just hanging off -- one that kind of stretches a bit. Great to run in, actually.

Anyway, I wore it to the gym and showed up just a little early for some unscheduled lifting (for those who don't lift, it's addictive).

Bob from the gym stopped me at the door and asked how much I had lost. He said I didn't quite look right at first lol. Apparently, while it is visibly clear that I'm leaner now than I was in January, those 3x shirts hanging off my shoulders and chest don't really show just how much belly and waist isn't there anymore.

I explained the journey -- that I was 328 in a size 44 pants and 3x shirt back in November, and by January had gotten down to 298. I managed to get down to a size 38 and 280 pounds, but when I brought my calories back up and started lifting more and more often, I started gaining again. Example: I ran a mile in under 10 min Thursday night, then stood on the scale at the gym and weighed in at 294.

He reiterated that he didn't quite recognize me at first glance, as he wasn't used to really being able to see the chest and arms I've built. I said yeah, well, it's the shirt. He said buy more of those shirts!

Anywho, it was nice to have someone notice a visibly obvious difference. I know I've made real progress, because I'm stronger and faster and my pants are smaller. But it's still sometimes hard to see myself, when I'm looking through my own eyes and the scale isn't being particularly encouraging. Was nice to know I'm still making good progress :)
