Vocatus's Journal, 29 March 2019

Rough couple days, it seems. I skipped the running class yesterday, and now it's looking like I won't get in the gym today either.

Heather and I are driving this evening up to the Fayetteville area for the weekend (about a 3 and a half hour drive one way). We'll be back Sunday evening, but then Wednesday afternoon we're heading out on a drive to Washington D.C. (17 and a half hours one way, no stops -- but of course there will be stops.) We plan to make a good road trip out of it. The company I work with is putting us up at the Kimpton George for the weekend, then we'll head home that next Monday morning.

With all the prep for the two trips, I thought I would be lucky to sneak off to the gym today. But then my youngest started barfing, so now I've had to clean all that up. Heather is taking her in to the doc in a couple hours, but then -- assuming we don't have to cancel the weekend plans for the sick baby -- we have a lot of prep still to do. Here's hoping -- for multiple reasons -- it was just sinus drainage that caused it. She was coughing a bit before she spewed, so maybe it's something as simple as that.

And, of course, I gave in to the stress of the planning and had a drink last night. Well, let me correct that. I had two drinks -- 4 oz. of rum apiece. I'm not exactly hung over in the normal sense that most people end up hungover. (I've never actually experienced that). but I definitely don't feel strong enough to tackle the aggressive superset plan I had in mind for today anyway. Wanted to see how far I could get alternating from 240 pound squat to 220 pound bench press and then from 275 pound deadlift to 225 pound lat pull down.

ah well, it'll make a good Monday workout before the road trip.

Okay, update time. The little one is fine. Either it was just the mucous drainage choking her a little or she had a mild stomach bug. Either way, nothing that won't likely clear up on its own shortly. I had planned to stay home with our 4 year old while my wife took the 14 month old to the doctor. Instead, she suggested that she drop us off at the YMCA so our oldest could play with the other kids and I could get at least some sort of workout in. I'm really glad, too. Got almost a full hour in. went between 235 pound squats to 215 pound bench press, with no breaks in between, then a five minute break for rest and water, then 265 pound dead lifts and 200 pound lat pull downs. 5 sets of 3 of everything. I'm feeling pumped :D
