A detailed list of some things I am thankful for:
1. My husband. I am thankful we have been together for almost 22 years, through great times, and some really difficult times when we both thought we weren't going to make it. He has been a terrific father, and has been supportive to me as I have had a very circuitous career path since the kids were born. He has carried a tremendous financial burden in the process. He has never loved me any less as my weight when up and down and back up, up, and up.
2. My kids. With two teenage daughters, it is easy some days to wonder why I had kids, but it takes only about 10 seconds to remember. They have made my life richer and deeper. I have learned things about myself, and about life in general that I never would have learned without them. They inspire me, and entertain me. I am proud of them, and love them deeply.
3. Color. I am thankful for a world full of color, and that we get to see it, unlike many creatures in the world. It inspires me as an artist, it makes me stop in my tracks at times, or just pause and take in the beauty....whether it is in the color of the sky, the riot of colors in a garden, or in a yarn shop! I am not picky...I love them all!
4. Tea. I was a coffee drinker. But in an attempt to cut back on caffeine, I started drinking more tea. And I started finding some great teas that have made that hot (or cold) beverage a rich sensory experience. The aroma of my citrus chamoimille tea in my thermos on a cold morning is a moment I relish. Chai tea, black or white is an escape from the ordinary. Mint melange is a psychological lift when I have a dip in the afternoon. I just finished brewing a pitcher of licorice ice tea, and I can't wait for it to cool down enough for me to pour myself a nice tall glass.
5. My dog. I am really not a dog person. But my daughter desperately wanted one for years. I finally gave in, and of course, her care and feeding has fallen mostly to me. But, over time I have come to appreciate the little joys she brings me. Aside from her sheer happiness at having someone pet her, or play with her, she gets me outside almost every day, for a walk(s). On those walks I get to take in the day, and experience first hand, not through a window of my car, or house, or office, what the world is like that day. I get to run into neighbors, and get to know them better. I often walk with my husband in the morning, and because the dog needs to be walked, we have managed to carve out a reliable 15 to 20 minutes every day that we spend together talking...or not.
That's good for now!
