Yesterday was an up and down day emotionally. Lots of running around for the kids. My youngest got her driver's license yesterday. Another parenting hurdle crossed for good now. And she broke up with her boyfriend of about 6 months. He is a sweetheart, and I understand her choice but feel terrible for him. You never anticipate this aspect of being a parent when you have kids.
My oldest daughter picked up her first car yesterday. She is doing well in her job, and now I will no longer have to drive back and forth 17 miles everyday. It is like getting 2 to 3 extra hours in my day, and a few extra dollars in my wallet. :) But I will have a little extra worry now about her safety....I'll get over that one eventually, but it is there. She broke up with her girlfriend as well this past week....but in that case, I am breathing a sigh of relief. It was not a match made in heaven, by any stretch of the imagination.
Finally, my DH and DD and I went to a concert in the back yard of one of my kids preschool teachers! It was amazing. They asked for a donation of $15/per person, and all the money went to the artist. And then they had tons of yummy food(she is a great cook), set up under tents. I went way over on my carbs for the day, but stayed at a good ratio overall...and my weight held steady for the day!
The musician is Danielle Miraglia. She sings a blues/rock/folk sort of mix....I guess a little like Bonnie Raitt. And she writes most of her own songs. Every year, for the last few years, this teacher and her husband sponsor this concert in their backyard, and invite friends and family. It is a great event, and such a generous thing to support a musician struggling to make a career. She tours...mostly on the east coast, but now heads to the midwest and west a bit. You can hear some her music at her website, if your are interested: Danielle Miraglia

Back on track today.

Cool music - very great gesture that people support her! I guess it is the time and place to learn about letting go - your daughter's their partners, and you of the daughters. I am sure you and DH did well instilling positive sills in them, so now we trust the process and hope they learn from their own mistakes.

You are right again HCB. It is about letting go. But that doesn't come easily, or without a conscious effort...at least for me! They are both getting good life experiences right now, and I suppose, so am I!

I love home concerts. We do quite a few of them in the SCA . . . mostly Celtic, New Age or Blues type of stuff with a little Blue Grass thrown in. It sounds like you had a great time. Raising kids is the pits, with a lot of fun thrown in. I'm 68, my oldest is 48 and my youngest is 25. You never get past the worry stage. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Watching children grow is full of mixed emotions, isn't it? Wear their achievements proudly on your sleeve... you deserve it!
