SoCalPam's Journal, 20 July 2018

I have a grapefruit-scented candle that I like to sniff during the day at work. I can't light it, but the scent is still strong enough to enjoy. I remember when I was younger eating grapefruit tablets as an appetite-suppressant and hadn't thought about them in a long time.

Yesterday I was eating one of those cups of grapefruit you can get at the grocery store for about a buck and realized later that I'd felt full for a long time afterward. So... I have to do the science, right? I found this article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15862904

Skim it and read the last sentence (which is the only truly intelligible sentence). I'll make it easy for you: "Thus, the scent of grapefruit oil, and particularly its primary component limonene, affects autonomic nerves, enhances lipolysis through a histaminergic response, and reduces appetite and body weight."

Grapefruit and its oils help reduce appetite and break down fatty acids. I'm in! I actually like grapefruit, so I'm encouraged to seek out more of it. I just like that I can sniff my candle during the day and curb some hunger pains. It was working for me before I read the article, so I know it works, at least for me.

Just my luck, the one fruit that I don't like is good for me. 😡

Bummer BlueFront! Even the smell? According to the article, just smelling the oil would be enough to help curb hunger pains.

What a great idea! I can't eat them but smelling them is worth a shot for helping.

I'm going to make some grapefruit oil spray and soak my house.

My niece ordered some natural oil scented candles from a company online for our whole family one Christmas. They were triple scented and only used natural ingredients. I'll see if she remembers where she ordered them from and post it here if she remembers it. I guess I could tolerate the smell even though I don't like the taste of grapefruit.

Pam— if you take any meds just be sure that the instructions for them don’t include — no grapefruit. Some of the enzymes in grapefruit can interfere with the absorption of or efficacy of the medications.

Thanks, Kenna. I take no meds :) I think grapefruit interferes with BP meds as my dad (who loves grapefruit) can't eat it.
