HCB's Journal, 26 March 2021

Welcome to our weekend, my fantastic followers!

SO, many new thoughts going on in my head today! My deficient vitamin D3 impacts a person's ability to lose weight - duh - yup!

This is why the Idiot Box is stuck after six weeks of regular exercise, and eating with a 600-900 calorie deficit. Then, adding on the fact I have thyroid disease with low T3 - I contacted my endocrinologist today. NOT Excuses - but mitigating factors!

My favorite trainer told me to try eating 1250 to 1300 for a week or so and see what happens...I believe it is metabolic right now so it will not necessarily help. I can eat 1000-1100 and feel satiated. If I have not lost at that rate, then something else is going on in my body.

On the other side - I am doing well at the gym - I am starting to push back into using 35 lb, 30 lb and 25 lb dumbbells again! Functional Fitness is improving!

Getting back to my dead-lifts, goblet squats, bent over rows, etc. These movements engage my hip muscles so something is coming back! Upper body has been a process of just regaining my strength back so using pair of 30lb weights for chest presses, and pair of 20lb for pec flys on the bench is moving back to what I once was able to do - but not all the way there!

HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL!

Carbs 40% Proteins 35% Fats 25%

Note to Self: FUNCTIONAL FITNESS is more important than the Idiot Box number!

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle - Tom Venuto

Shorter Range Goals:
* Down on the Idiot Box while rebuilding muscle
* Bodyfat% reading with trainer once weight is down
* Drink at least 10 cups of fresh water/fluids daily
* Continue HIIT mixed in with weight lifting three to five days a week
* Keep up the training notebook to achieve progressive overload

Longer Range Goals:
*Bodyfat at 28% or less
*Longer range body fat goal is 26% - which at my age is great!
*Maintain 160lbs or less staying under goal weight in 2021-2022
*Increased strength, endurance and flexibility during workout

I always love reading your posts! I have an amazing D3 product I started using recently. Well, I think it is amazing because I actually remember to use it! It is a D3 lotion. You apply a pump to the inside of each wrist every day and rub it in. If you are interested in the product, it is called Amp Human D3 lotion and can be found at amphuman.com. First order is 15% off. It is not inexpensive but I feel it is worth it.

@mesatop: thanks - I was taking 2000 IUs every day but not absorbing it. Thyroid issues can sometimes do that to the system. I am now on the once a week megadose of 50,000 IUs to try to get things back to normal.

I only take 1,000 units I have stomach problems so I found when I cut reccommend doses in half I tolerate them better therefore absorb them better

I had a severe deficiency too! My levels were at 13 and now I’m at 69. I dropped weight like crazy when I started treating it. I had to take 10,000 IU daily for four months! I was able to drop down to 2,000 IU recently.

Glad to hear others stories. I have Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism and D3 issues too. I take 30,000 iu a day (my cardiologist tells me 50k, but pcp says 30k) and I couldn’t believe my last labs came back showing I was deficient. Going to talk to the pcp about shots at this point. I’ve had gut issues all my life that are worse under stress and life has been stressful the last few years, so I’m guessing I’m probably not absorbing much of anything. I’m determined to figure out what the drs don’t seem to be able to!

Thanks and you have a great weekend also! Your post makes me check my log to see how much vitamin D I am getting in. I am soooo impressed with your lifting. So my 8 pounds weights are not a goal..😂😂😂

The best vit D is from sunshine. Read up on bits in D. Taking a pill is only part of the equation.

@GrandmaSadie echoing Kenna here, sunshine is necessary for activating D3 in the body. =) The pills are helpful, but D3 can be finicky about how it's absorbed and with what nutrients - and the supplements are the inactive form anyway, so even with them, it's important to spend at least a little bit of time in the sun to get Vit D to its active form. =)

In the USA, especially I’m states like Hawaii, California and Florida, there has been a significant uptick in vitamin D deficiency —- can you guess why? SUNSCREEN. We have done such a good job of getting the skin cancer prevention message out there that we now have another issue. Like most things in life it is all about —- (drum roll) portion control and moderation.

Mesatop— sorry but vitamin D lotions are good for things like eczema, but they provide very little vit D that is absorbed into the bloodstream and made available for your body to use.

There is an FDA website that lists every product sold in the USA — states that products claims and reports the validity of that claim. I will look it up again and post the URL for anyone who wants to stop wasting money. On some of these OTC products.

@HCB Have you checked out Debbie Cousins? Like us, a couple weeks back she was "stalled" and posting said frustration. Then she put on a fat loss clinic that shames my efforts... Not particularly excited to get schooled by Grandma, but as the kids say, "facts"....

@she_loves I’m in AZ, so it’s hard not to get some sunshine 😊 I’m also very fair skinned (dermatologist has me as a 1 on the Fitzpatrick scale) with a family history of skin cancer and a personal history of actinic keratosis and atypical nevi. (And... I’ve never been able to get a suntan in my entire life - yep, I was “that” girl at the beach or pool who looked like a first-timer) This, unfortunately, puts me in the very high risk category for melanoma, but I recently have been trying to get a bit more sun time in, in the hopes that I can start producing more D. I’ve tried a variety of types of D3 supplements; think I’m going to try a new fish oil oil supplement with a higher added D3 (since D3 is fat soluble and I’ve cut my fat intake), get a little more sun, and keep my fingers crossed. I need the levels to come up somehow because of a familial vascular rigidity problem (translated, I have stiffer (and smaller) than normal veins and arteries) which results in hypertension that’s hard to control. D3 is the best natural aide to keeping my blood vessels flexible. (My sister, who has the same problem, suffered a massive brain bleed a few years back, and I am trying to avoid that road)It’s an interesting journey some days.

@KennaMorton! LOL - this is why we are moving from Minneapolis MN to Myrtle Beach SC! More sunshine, we hope and much less darkness and cold!

@JimmiePop - YES, I have been following Debbie and her 14 day fast result. I can do OMAD or even a 36 hour fast at times...not sure how it would go for my gym workouts though...I seem to need the fuel.

Kenna, what about the Vitamin D connection with fighting COVID? I've read info on both sides, interested what you think. I take it daily for other reasons, but would be a bonus.
