Ever wonder "what the heck are these metabolic ward studies these science gels talk about?"

Here's a peek as to what happens in a metabolic ward study from the perspective of a subject of the tests... fascinating!

Very interesting article, thanks for posting link. Amazing how intuitive and adaptable the body is. Points of special interest: crash dieting can permanently slow a person’s metabolic rate, leading them to hang on to the calories they were eating for longer.. we can unknowingly compensate for lost calories lost by eating more. The article mirrors what a biology prof covered once in a class on evolutionary biology, the body will attempt to gain back lost weight as a survival mechanism.

Every "special butterfly" learns quickly that they are not so special once they are a test subject in one of these chambers. I recently read one where a girl was convinced her metabolism was slow. Nope, it was perfectly normal. The weight loss industry that likes to sell magical diet books, etc would rather the general public be ignorant to metabolic ward/chamber studies.

Oh, this may be the one I was speaking of, she thought her metabolism was slow. Wrong. I found this part interesting. "For example, by giving people a medication that causes them to lose (through their urine) an extra 360 calories per day, they’ve shown that we unknowingly compensate for those calories lost by eating more."

^I think that is an example of why extra cardio isn't a solution unless you're counting calories. The extra energy used will be replaced by hunger triggers.

I have issues with those who misrepresents facts and denies reality. I think when members are in agreement about the importance of science, it’s a good thing. It shows some level of individual critical thinking, vs taking the interpretation of a Dr.(not your dr or a doctor that specializes in weight management, just a random Dr. joe, no offense to any joes put there...) verbatim/“expert”/I-have-to-choose-my-words-carefully-but-it’s-almost-3 in-the-morning-and-I-am-trying-to-think-of-a-non-offensive-word-for-a-self-proclaimed-online-guru-who-believes-their-teaching-is-the-way-to-onlightenment).As fitstrongnhealthy quotes “when I lost all of my excuses, I found all my results.” Nobody’s special.

👍 on “personal truths” bc if you disagree on a personal truth... it gets personal...

It’s a good thing johncip doesn’t post often 10/9 was when he posted this article. It’s a good article I think that deserves to be repeated.

I truly don't want the drama...I own no llamas...but it can't be 'butterfly' it MUST be snowflakes.....The special snowflake syndrome lives in the minds of the average Joe (hi Moops...stole your male name for non-offensive comments) because snowflakes are so unique. Great article Chris....affirms the science, affirms my belief in donuts....

It’s a sad realization that nobody’s special when it comes to fat loss. 🐮 💕 🐢
